I am accepted into both schools. I would either major in Engineering at Villanova or major in Economics and minor in Math at Boston College. I want to make sure I consider the major itself, life at the college, and anything else that would have an impact on my college experience. Any opinions/feedback?

Engineering major will create many more options for you in terms of employment and graduate programs than the Econ option. If you are considering grad school the econ track is SOO competitive and the placement after the Ph.D is not that bright either. Sample of one is necessarily biased data but I know 2 Econ Docs who switched careers after their graduation because of poor $$ income for one (did law degree) and inability to get an academic position at a research institution for the other (did medical degree and is now at a univ hospital).
Also, as an engineer UG if you knock out the GMAT you will find it really easy to get into a top MBA or business Ph.D. program.
That said, you should always follow your heart when it comes to your career choice b/c it can be quite painful to be in a career just for the $$$.
BTW, I just love the BC campus. I think life there and in Boston, in general, is way more attractive than the Philly area. You could not pay me enough money to live in Philly :-)

Thanks for your input! The decision is so tough because I feel that (like you said) I like the campus and overall ‘feel’ of BC. I am also concerned about the requirements of the engineering program, I have heard that engineers have ‘no free time’ and ‘no life.’ I do agree with you that an engineering degree will create more options for me after I graduate.

I’d hate to see you want to do engineering but not be able to at BC. I’d go to 'Nova since you can really explore engineering there. My gf’s brother is a civil engineering major there graduating this year and he loves it so I don’t think you’ll be too overworked.

Decide which major you prefer and go to the school that offers it. You are going to be working most of your life in the field you choose.

One other thing to think about, if you go to Nova as an engineering student and decide that you would prefer economics, you can simply switch majors. If you go to BC and decide that you want to pursue engineering, you will have to transfer.

In your situation, this should be a pretty easy choice.
