I have been offered full tuition from both Villanova and Richmond, making both approx. cost equivalent. I need to make a decision on either school, which is difficult because they have their respective good points. I want to study accounting/business. Please help me with making this decision!

My priorities:
Academic quality (diverse and indepth learning)
Good study abroad opportunities
Brilliant student body
Creative culture
Engaging extra-curricular activities

Low priorities:
Prestige
Sports

I'm not so sure if location, weather, social scene, housing, food options should significantly important factors...

Should I be concerned that Villanova’s endowment is $355 million as of May 31, 2008, whilst Richmond’s endowment is $1.45 billion as of October 31, 2008?

I heard that some of Villanova’s courses were cut due to financial reasons, such as German studies, whilst Richmond is still proceeding with construction projects.

Philly seems to be a better location than Richmond though.

Kana, good luck with your decision. I have no advice to offer, I’m sorry! My daughter is a junior in hs and we are looking at colleges now. I posted a question about full tuition scholarships and stats but can’t get any info. Congratulations on getting full tuition to both these great schools! Would you please post your stats? I can’t find info anywhere on the “usual” stats that get full tuition. It would be very helpful. Plus, did you visit both schools and what were your impressions?

I had to make the same decision and at first, I fell in love with Richmond. But over time, Villanova seemed like much more of a fit for me. Sports were big to me, but since it isn’t to you, I’m not really sure if you could go wrong with either one. They are both ranked very highly in the business deparment and have fairly similar student bodies, so if I were you, I would just list out pros and cons for both and make a decision. If you want to get a job up north (Philly/NYC/Boston), Villanova would probably be the ideal choice.

villanova’s business school is ranked very high so it must be doing something good. have u visited each? which campus did you like better? i visited villanova and loved it personally, the business building looked really new and up to date. good luck… its a hard decision!

Yes you should be concerned about any endowment, as they all will take a huge hit. Updated as of May 2008 isn’t very good. Richmond wins

Diversity, none are diverse. tie

Neither schools have blow me away prestige. tie

I scanned over your priorities and it seems like Richmond will be the better fit. With the things happening in the economy, endowements will be shrinking for sure. Richmond, with its much higher endowment is more likely to match it’s offer to you for all four years or at least something near. With Nova, fin aid could be a hit or miss.

Go to Richmond! Hope that helps.

And about Nova being a higher ranked b-school, both are fairly close in the rankings and are super regional schools. When it comes to getting a job, with the schools ranked that close to each other, it’ll come down to your interview, not your academics.

Lol don’t worry about recruitment. Schools like Nova and Richmond, it’s all the same in terms of recruiting. It’s only Top 5 schools that you see an advantage.
