My dd is interested in applying to Villanova and having her GC nominate her for the Presidential Scholarship. I’m wondering for those of you with prior experience – if your GC is already submitting a recommendation for the student, does the GC have to write something totally new for the nomination? Or does the GC just paraphrase from his/her original recommendation? It seems like the recommendation and the nomination cover the same material and can be redundant for the most part. Any thoughts?
I am applying to Villanova, and because it is so expensive, I am really relying on the presidential scholarship, if I was to get in. There is a nomination form that your guidance counselor must fill out by December 1 to be considered for the scholarship (application must be in before then). It’s pretty straightforward for the GC and much shorter than a Letter of Recommendation. Try to give them the link and have them fill it out as soon as possible after you complete your application because I am sure the Guidance Counselors are probably very busy working with other students and their applications.

@michp12 Thank you for the reply. However, my question was directed to those who might have had previous experience with regard to a GC who has already written a letter of rec for the student. This is because my dd’s GC has already written her letter of rec for her and I’m wondering if, in such a case, the GC just uses that letter of rec or a variation of it for the nomination form? Or does Villanova expect a totally new recommendation? As I said before, I would think these would be very redundant. But just wanted to get any thoughts from those with previous experience.
My son was nominated for the Presidential two admissions cycles ago. His principal wrote the nomination recommendation, and his guidance counselor did a rec for admissions purposes. They were totally different, from my understanding. The Presidential has a specific set of qualities it wants the recommender to address. The GC form that is done for admissions has a different set of qualities. There will no doubt be overlap.
Thank you! @gclsports
Hi, does anyone have any idea about when the Presidential Scholarship finalists will be notified?
My D’s guidance counselor did the nomination. I have no idea if he reused his regular recommendation.
@white The VU website states with respect to the Presidential Scholarship:
By January 31, 2020
All applicants will be notified of their status by the end of the month.
