Deferred EA and Waitlisted RD. Top 4% of class and former jersey girl living in NC hoping to get back to northeast! Does anyone have insight if waitlisters actually get in?
I graduated 2nd in my class from Nova, Summa Cum Laude. Now an accomplished Orthopaedic Surgeon. I was the very first person in my family tree to attend college, let alone medical school. Son was just waitlisted for Class of ‘23…
SAT 1410
Weighted GPA 5.02 , w/16 combined AP + Honors classes. Took 11 AP exams.
Rank 10/150s at one of the best high schools in PA.
2 year starting QB and elected captain.
Baseball, basketball, lax.
Community service record extensive.
My brother also graduated from Nova. So, legacy status appears to matter little.
Son’s been accepted to superior southern schools, but would have strongly considered Nova.
Maybe part of the reason the aid offers mentioned are so low is because of situations like this.
Please don’t call me for any donations…
I’ll be buying ACC or SEC football tix with that money. And tailgating.
Good luck to all those accepted.
@BoneDoc624 I completely understand how you feel. My S19 was WL at my alma mater (and his sister is a current student). I certainly hope your son (and you) enjoy wherever he ends up.
S19 deferred from EA and then accepted RD. Undeclared A&S.
SAT 1450 / GPA 4.0 UW
track all 4 years
all honors classes + 2 AP (only introduced in senior year, and not allowed to take more than 2)
school doesn’t rank
research internship junior year (breast cancer)
summer microbiology/dna classes (freshman-junior)
nature conservancy volunteer/paid part time job with them
not many EC’s at school (just science club), but outside class EC’s show consistent interest in environment/microbiology
no idea about LOR as he never saw them
no legacy
Did anyone receive their mailed acceptance with any FA info yet?
@BoneDoc624, if it’s any consolation, outright rejected with:
SAT: 1420
WGPA: 3.8
20 AP/Honors Classes, 14 Honors and 6 AP’s
Athlete and Acting
Great EC’s
I do think academic rigor is underrated by these schools. They look primarily at GPA and SAT/ACT scores IMO. So in hindsight a 4.2 WGPA with 10 AP/Honors is better than a 3.8 WGPA with 20 AP/Honors. The whole system stinks by the way
@BoneDoc624 just curious, did your son apply ED as a legacy? I thought they said they expect legacies that are expecting the legacy status to help to apply ED. Then someone posted a while back that they speculated if you were a legacy and applied RD instead of ED, they may actually hold it against you. Just wondering if maybe that’s what happened? And which school at Villanova did your son apply to?
I don’t think applying RD as a legacy is held against you lol. That wouldn’t make a lot of sense. They said if you really wanted a bump, you had to apply ED. It’s still probably a positive in the RD round, it’s just much much more competitive now.
I don’t think they would either, but someone was speculating that. I’m not sure it helps at all though during the RD round and while a 1410 is a great score, there are lots of applicants that are denied with that score RD. Not sure if he applied business, but I would say definitely in the business school.
At the risk of repeating what may have already been mentioned, it appears ED itself might be a bump over RD and legacy status might add somewhat to that bump.
While 1410/1420 are very good SAT scores keep in mind it now takes a 1470 to be in the 75th percentile at Villanova.
I’d also suggest the number of 5’s in AP exams is more significant than the number of AP Courses taken. (5’s in all 5 AP courses over 10 courses with 3’s and 4’s.).
@laxmass interesting point about it being more important to have 5’s on fewer exams than 3/4’s on more exams. Have you talked to someone at Villanova about that or are you just speculating?
Also, would you expect that the student just self report the AP scores on Common Ap, or have them sent officially? How would the school get the score info?
