For what it’s worth; my son didn’t report his AP scores and got into Honors College and received a St. Augustine scholarship. 1450 SAT and 34 ACT.
@nws2023 did he report both his SAT and ACT?
I asked about reporting the AP scores because most people don’t formally report them until they accept admission and are sending them for credit/placement.
My son got 1510 and on waiting list. Applied to Business School. Interesting process. Did not realize being white male was such a disadvantage in applying to colleges. Certainly eye opener on how this works and will learn when younger son applies to schools.
@robros How difficult it must be to even imagine the fact that he was judged on his merit and admissions counselors decided to make a decision simply off of his applicant profile regardless of his race and sex. I don’t think Villanova would have the lack of diversity it has if white men applying to the school had a disadvantage. Recognize the privilege you have in the world instead of claiming a disadvantage that does not exist
@Robros I agree with you and it is an eye-opener.
@Robros Last year my son with similar stats was also waitlisted at business school. He is Hispanic so no advantages for him. Business school has become increasingly competitive over the past few years.
@nws2023 Congrats to your son! Is there a merit scholarship along with entry to the Honors College?
Although I do believe that everyone should be holistically evaluated and that diversity is needed on college campuses, I think maybe it would be fairer to designate half of all the available spots at a school for URM/first generation college students with the remaining 50% going to other students who don’t qualify for either and are judged on their scores and resumes alone. That way everyone has a shot. I’m just so happy this is my last trip to this rodeo and I never have to do it again!
@collegekidyerr - While everyone’s entitled to their opinion, no one enjoys being lectured “on the privilege [they] have in the world” by a complete stranger who doesn’t know a single thing about them.
There was a question regarding reporting AP scores.
This has been much discussed on previous CC threads (with strategies therein) and there is specific space on the Common App to self-report scores…one can also list (elsewhere on Common App) AP Scholar honors received from The College Board.
@nws2023 A 34 ACT is above the 75th percentile for accepted students (I don’t believe all students - accepted and otherwise - self report all AP scores).
@robros that stinks that your son didn’t get in and a 1510 is a great score. However, I think now that Villanova has ED and that their business school has become so popular, his waitlist status makes sense. I’m sure he would have gotten in had he applied as a liberal arts major (I know a white girl from NJ that was accepted RD with a 1400, and I think it’s even harder for girls to get in than boys at Villanova because there are more girls at the school). I think the combination of applying RD and applying business makes admission very, very difficult there.
MODERATOR’S NOTE: There is ONE thread on the site, in the Admissions forum, for discussion of race in admissions, and this isn’t it. Please do not discuss race in this thread.
My daughter was just accepted off the waitlist yesterday. Does anyone know how long they get to decide whether or not to take the offer?
@Kmhbt1 It should state in the offer otherwise I would think May 1.
@vpa2019 if was a phone call offer but you’re right I would think a written one will come today and will say. I think my excitement was making me impatient
kmhbt1 can you please post your stats, on wait list also
@Luke123456 she had 1540 on SAT and 4.3 GPA. Chemical engineering major.
thanks congrats.
@Kmhbt1 ha ha I’d be excited too! Always nice to receive happy news?! Good luck with final choice!
@Kmhbt1 I wonder if your daughter being put on the waitlist had anything do to with yield protection? I know engineering majors that were accepted with much lower scores…maybe they just wanted to see if she would come if they accepted her?
