Best of luck to everyone! We’ve all worked so hard through high school. You really never know
Good luck to everyone!!! Hopefully we all get in!
Four and a half hours
5:30 eastern, right?
Good luck all! you do not ever know, but I have grown a bit dismayed with the process. Colleges are a business and the business is to make $. Being qualified is great, however submitting all of your financials so early allows the college to see exactly how much you are able to pay based upon the FAFSA, CSS profile, and IDOC information they request. With all things being relatively equal (G.P.A. from comparable high schools, ACT/SAT scores, unique extra curricular and community involvement…the one variable they examine is the student’s need. If you don’t check the box that you will be requesting financial aid, it appears that this is surely beneficial and a favorable variable for acceptance in non-need blind schools. Are there any schools out there that are truly need blind? Best, Fred.
@cccrsn Could be 5:00 like the portal says. Positive thoughts for all!!
Okay but eastern?
@cccrsn Yes, EST.
@FredSanford - I think that’s a bit much of a conspiracy theory. Colleges are not obligated to offer you any aid, especially private ones. Schools typically have a budget they manage. They won’t go over that budget. If you don’t take the offer, then they have waitlists to ensure they fill their spots. I believe any school that claims to be need-blind. You may get in, but maybe you won’t receive as much money as you would have liked. When a school reject more than half of the applicants, they are not in a bad position to be straight up.
I do think that the schools that claim to be truly need blind are. I know a student last year that applied to need blind NYU (her dream school and very much a reach) and a couple of non-need blind safer schools (but not safeties). In the end, she got in to NYU with almost a full ride (57K per year) and was waitlisted at some of her need-aware schools.
So I think what Fred said is correct…it can hurt you to apply for need, but I think this is more so the case if you are on the cusp. If you are a really strong applicant, they might take you and give you the money or some of the money you need (because I do think the colleges are trying to diversify and really don’t want a campus full of only rich kids). So when they really want you, the need aware schools try to give you enough. If they need to fill some spots and you make the cut, they may accept you but you need to be willing to graduate with a lot of debt. Or in the case of the girl I knew, they may not take you at all.
Agree! There are schools that are not need blind and it is a factor, but not so much at the upper echelon schools. I think it is a much bigger factor when they are pulling people off the waitlist to fill final spots. Aid is late at that point, budgets are allocated, and they’d likely be apt to use it as a consideration (again if they are silent on claiming to be need-blind).
We’re almost there!! Take a nap, workout, do something to Pass these last few hours. Good luck to everyone I truly hope we all get in!!!
