You would think these schools would now adjust their admissions timetables. With the ability to submit prior-prior on the financial aid, many applied early action. My son has been accepted to 5 of the 7 schools he has heard from, Villanova deferred him, no word from Syracuse which only has ED or RD. He has now been to two accepted students weekends and his interest in Villanova is almost non-existent. We’ll see if this is the case if he gets accepted, but as of now we have sent in money to secure housing…seems like these schools may be really making a tactical mistake.
@bos2nj Or creating a demand and securing incoming students that truly have chosen VU as their top choice. In my opinion that creates a very strong incoming class. So far I have been accepted to 4 out of 6, still waiting to hear from 2. I’ve prepared for this decision for years and there is no way I’d make a final one until all of my options were in front of me. I understand the need to secure housing but that is a financial gamble you take if you go that route. I considered that at one school since housing is a little tougher but decided to hold off. I’m prepared to suck it up my first year if I end up with a less dorm choice. Good luck to your son…we’re close!
Villanova2021 I hear what you are saying. I was just thinking out loud. My son had Nova as his first choice, I believe the pressure to commit he is feeling is coming from all his friends who have pretty much made their decisions and are ‘moving on’. I agree, patience is a virtue he does not really possess. This is the first time we have gone through the process, his acceptances as early as November have already included substantial scholarship and financial aid money. My point had more to do with the new timeline that was established this year due to the prior prior year taxes being considered. Best of luck to you!!
@bos2nj I totally get it where he’s coming from. I have generous scholarships from the other 4 schools and it’s hard when all your friends know where they’re headed. This process has really taught me a lot about how to approach important decisions. What school is he applying to?
Adding to what posters above have said, I have to agree with @bos2nj. Villanova would have been my first choice if I’d been accepted EA instead of deferred, but unfortunately this was not the case. The long wait is so annoying especially for impatient 18 year olds. I’ve since put down a deposit at another school (for housing purposes) and while I’ll still consider Villanova if I get in RD, their deferral turned me off even though it wasn’t meant to. I applied to VSB as a legacy (dad attended) with a 3.75UW, 33 ACT from the Philadephia suburbs with stellar ECs and an excellent, unique essay (college counselor said it’s the best of the year). To put it in perspective, so far I’ve been accepted to IU Kelley (direct admit), PSU smeal, OSU fisher, Tulane, Pitt, UMiami, and Fordham with generous scholarships from several. I’m hoping for good news from Villanova, but have lost so much interest in the school over the past few months that even if I get rejected I won’t be too upset.
@lushella I wish you the best of luck!
I have legacy throughout my family at Nova so I’m hoping that helps but I hear they’re extra extra selective this year for RD so I’m very nervous to see what happens
Got rejected from Northeastern… praying for Villa!! I like it better anyways
I know the feeling I got rejected from Tufts and WashU so hoping on Villanova at this point^^^
And so just to clarify, we’re thinking next week? Which day?
True @c011e9e what day ?
Wait wait what? My tufts portal hasn’t updated
Good luck to all. Hope your dreams come true. My D was accepted EA back in Dec to VSB and we still have not received any FA info. Being our 1st in college, I find it interesting Nova hasn’t shared the info yet. D was accepted at other b schools back in Nov/Dec and upon admittance, scholarship/aid was released within a week or two after acceptance.
I got accepted at Northeastern after being deferred there so holding out hope for Nova. The price tag at both Northeastern and Villanova is quite substantial though, and got nothing from NE, so holding out hope for Nova. I am also accepted at the University of Maryland and UMass Amherst (Isenberg) which both have good programs for a much lower price so we will have to see. Hoping for money (and an acceptance) from Villanova though…
What do you guys think the acceptance rate is for VSB?
All of my FA docs have been in since january. On 3/2 I got an email asking for additional insight on specific numbers. I just noticed on my portal the date of all my docs being received updated to 3/3… did this happen to anyone else?
Anyone who has been rejected by a school or who may get rejected by Villanova, please know that colleges are filled with students who are not attending their first choice school. Most of my friends in college did not get into their first choice schools (myself included, it was my #3 choice), but guess what, they received a wonderful education have gone on to run businesses, become doctors, attend prestigious graduate and law schools and we have been friends for 35 years. So no matter what happens, you will be in college next year and you will, more than likely, LOVE it!
Does anyone know when scholarship information usually comes out? I was accepted EA and had an interview for the Villanova Scholarship. I thought it was “on April 1st,” but I got an email saying it was “by April 1st,” so it should be earlier right?
