I was accepted EA to VSB and am hoping for some merit based aid via the Villanova Scholarship. Does anyone have any information about it? I know the awards vary based on achievement, but I was wondering what type of SAT scores, GPA, extracurrics, etc. weight out to which monetary amount. Thanks!

Good question. I’m sure they look at it holistically and look at the FAFSA, CSS PROFILE. Villanova is trying to target meeting 100% of need as determined by FAFSA/PROFILE but that usually includes Federal subsidized loans (so-so) and unsubsidized (not great) loans. The grants are all need based on FAFSA/PROFILE. So in theory, Donald Trump’s son/daughter would get no aid because of no need.

But I’d like to know if 3.85 GPA and 33 ACT plus good activities leadership translated to 0K, 10K, 20K or 30K of grant aid on an average basis. The award stats page says
For our current 2010-2011 Freshman class:

* 93% of those who applied for need-based aid were eligible to receive some type of assistance.
- 77% of those eligible for need-based assistance received Villanova Grants for a total of $13 million. The average Villanova Grant award was $21,260.
- The average assistance package for students with demonstrated financial need (combining grants, scholarships, loans and student employment) was $29,348.

Overall:

* 65% of all matriculating undergraduates receive some type of assistance.
- For 2010-2011 Villanova University committed over $61 million of its resources for grant aid to undergraduate students.

But it would nice to know how these award stats related to the GPA/ACT scenario above assuming some level of need.

Many sons & daughters of parents with a lot less assets & income than Donald Trump get zero aid.

Many families that do not consider themselves rich are full pay.

33 ACT, 3.84 GPA, 7 APs, 4 honor societies, VP Science Honor Society and tennis team.
Tennis team went to state semifinals and I played number 3
Asian

We will see on Monday if that is enough or if any grant aid is there. It looks like I qualify as a candidate for the Villanova scholarship

My Nova says all financial aid to be posted on My Nova on March 25

In reading threads from past years, it doesn’t seem that Villanova gives very much merit aid. This is my Ds first choice school and was accepted, but we are not getting our hopes up, because paying 52K per year is not an option. When we went to the Accepted Students Day we ate lunch with several current students. They seemed to be very good students and loved the school, but not one of them had received ANY merit money.

LYear: 34 ACT, Top 5% of class, Tons of ECs, 9AP Courses Accepted early action got 3K Villanova scholarship. Decided to go elsewhere.
