I received a letter notifying me that I am a finalist for Villanova Scholarship. Villanova is one of my safety schools and would only truly consider it if I was given a full ride (Presidential Scholarship). Since I have not received anything about Presidential Scholarship, does this mean I was not a finalist for it?

one must be nominated for the presidential scholarship, and the nomination was due by December 1 =/

Dang Thanks though.

I was nominated and submitted everything, I was also deferred from Nova, when will I find out about the scholarship?

If you were deferred, I doubt that you will receive a scholarship. Last year, over 800 students applied, and I believe that fewer than 20 were awarded. In the information for the Presidential Scholarship, there is a statement that basically states “being nominated does not guarantee admission.”

thanks for the info

When will we know the next step? How will Villanova inform us that we are the finalist of the scholarship or not?

Hi out there. Any hear anything yet?

My D was notified that she did not get selected as a finalist.

My son was notified (via myNOVA) that he is not a finalist.

It’s up on mynova, I wasn’t selected with a 1500/33, president of 3 clubs and pretty good essays. They have 18 scholarships for 1017 nominations. They generally invite double what they have available so 36/1017 are finalists.

Also notified today that I am not a finalist. They said that they had a record number of applications (over 1,000). I am not surprised, but also saddened because now I am pretty sure that I won’t attend Villanova because I have offers from other schools. Best of luck to the rest of you!

My D is a finalist of the Presidential scholarship. So happy for her.

Congrats to your daughter!! Even if she doesn’t get the Presidental Scholarship, being a finalist gets her a pretty descent scholarship. Last year my son was a finalist and did get the full scholarship. He had a great time over the weekend that all the kids were brought in. He made many friends and many of those that didn’t get the Presidental Scholarship ended up going as they got a fair amont of money. My son had many great choices, but is thrilled that he chose Villanova…as are his father and I. We love the environment that the school offers. The kids are great, professors accessable and access into Philly quite easy. You really can’t go wrong. Good luck!

My son applied for the Presidential Scholarship, but hasn’t checked his mynova status recently. Now I have to wait until he gets home to find out.
However, last night he did get a phone call from a nice man in the department to which he is applying to chat about the school. Think that’s a good sign, or just coincidence?

My child is a finalist as well!! Just wondering does anyone know what happens during the finalist visit? where do they stay, etc? and can anyone confirm that there are only 36 finalist- sounds very low to me.

My D didn’t get selected. We’re sad but not as devastated as only 18 scholarships are available out there and we know the competition was great.

Our congratulations to those who got invited. Good luck!

For those students who are finalists, how have you recieved notification?

My daughter’s MyNova lost the first page with Announcements last Wednesday.

Last year when my son was a finalist they had the students stay in Villanova housing with current Presidental Scholars. They kept the kids very busy and had them participate in all aspects of Villanova life. The feeling is that they want to kids that are offered the scholarship to really, really want to go to the school, not just because of the money, but because they think they really can be happy there. My son came away from that weekend with a very good sense of the Villanova community. I think that the way they handle it makes alot of sense.

Last year I believe they had 54 finalists. Scholarships were offered to about 26 and I believe 21 accepted. For those students that did not get the offer did receive about 1/2 the amount of money that the Presidental Scholars were offered. Many of those kids ended up at Villanova as well. Good luck to all of the finalists.

Multimom, I hope your son is a finalist! That being said, my son received a phone call last week from someone at from the department he is accepted into, asking if he had any questions, stating they were glad he was coming to the Early Acceptance program, etc. Last night he found out he was NOT a finalist.

Good luck to you and your son. I hope its good news for you!!
