Which business school/university in general would you choose? I know villanova's business program is ranked high but BC seems to be the "better" school overall academically.. what do you think?

one more thing.. when I visited villanova a few days ago i really loved everything about it, the feel, the campus but 2 things were two turnoffs... i noticed an INSANE amount of cigarettes on the ground, near the dorms, by the building entrances.. it was disgusting.. does anyone know if students smoke?! i mean.. it looked like a lot.. although i did not see anyone on campus smoking (it was also a colder day and many people weren't outside..plus it was the morning) and the second thing is when we walked into some sophmore dorms, it smelt PUTRID.. like i couldnt breath.. and it was cramped and just not what i wanted.....

'Nova's program is higher-ranked, so I'd go with that. However, it does depend on where you want to live after graduation. BC will get you far in Boston, but 'Nova will get you far in Philly.

Unfortunately, I don't really know much about smoking. If it helps any, I was at a frat party there during the EA candidates weekend, and I only noticed one person smoking, and they went outside the house. So I think for a packed party, only one smoker isn't so bad at all. And also, I've heard the sophomore dorms are dumps but TONS of fun. No one seems to mind living there despite the small size and outdated-ness because of the tradeoff for fun.

idk and also the freshman dorms are not part of the main campus (i know its for the most part like this for BC.. BC's being even further).. and i saw the freshman dorm buildings and they just didn't look attractive at all..
i must have saw 480805505 cig buds on villanova's campus and when i went to penn the same day.. i saw NONE and its in a city...

maybe it was the day you went or something because the times i've visited, i havent noticed anything but a beautiful campus. True, the dorms were not a turn-on, but thats college; not many dorms are that great

Sophomore dorms are notoriously the worst on campus. Freshman dorms tend to be bigger, and it's really what you make of it. The soph dorms don't have to be gross (in your room at least) if you minimize the stuff you bring and are tidy. But the incentive really comes Junior year when you are given 4 person apartments will full kitchen, living room, 2 bathrooms & most of the junior class lives on West which is a big plus.
Don't notice too many smokers on campus though, that's odd.

idk i found it really strange.. but the dorms junior year sounds really good!(also a pool and tennis courts on west campus which i saw on a tour i took).. also, for freshman i felt as though they weren't connected to the main campus.. they were like across the streetish and the buildings weren't very attractive and didn't look like they were affiliated with Nova but besides the dorms fresh and soph years i loved villanova when I visited it! i think i would choose nova for business, their building looked really up to date and brand new and very nice

My daughter lived in Sheehan or Sullivan Hall her sophomore year and LOVED it. Her room was actually more "spacious" because there was less furniture in it. Instead of an armoire, there was an actual closet. The shelves were built in, too. Despite the age of the dorms, the kids LOVE living there. It is the center of campus. The best cafeteria on campus is on South, where the freshman are housed. Kids meet there all the time because of that. Business majors literally roll out of bed from South campus for classes in Bartley Hall.

as for the freshman year living situation - sure it sounds a little weird, but everyone who lives on south campus LOVES IT. it's not ALL the freshman like most people seem to think. some freshman do live on main campus. but south campus is like one big bonding place, and the dining hall here is so much better than the ones on main campus. i used to come from my soph year dorm down to south just to eat there. and there's a gym and a small market. trust me you'd probably be disappointed not being there.

i'm currently a senior at villanova. I lived on Main Campus (fedigan dorm) my freshman year. I survived, but I missed out by not living on South. Trust me, when you say you think its secluded, it makes me think you really haven't talked to enough people there. It is so happening, everyone hangs outside on nice days, goes to the same dorm, its great for meeting people. No one I've ever met here thought it was a bad situation.

Also if you don't like the dorms on Main for sophmore year, I lived in Good Counsel on South Campus instead and absolutely loved it. It has air conditioning, in room sinks, huge rooms. Plus because its the only sophmore dorm on South, which sounds lame at first, but it has 350+ people in it and you become super tight with a lot of them. It was my favorite year I spent on campus.

Also, again, I do smoke on a regular basis and I can tell you barely anyone else does. Oh there's a few, but I'd say about 8 out of 10 students don't smoke. A few smoke one or two on like a Saturday night out drinking, but its usually impossible to find a lighter from another student haha.

South is really nice (especially Good Counsel, as someone pointed out above). I wouldn't worry about living there; that's where I would aim to live as a freshman. As for the smoking, I know there were actually more smokers than I expected, but, it's still not a huge number. I know a group of regular smokers, but, other than that, I haven't really noticed smoking on campus. If you don't smoke, it's not a big deal at all.

To be honest, there's going to be smokers at any school you go to. So, I just wouldn't cross off a school on my list because of that, that's just me though. good luck with your choices!

i currently live in stanford and i wouldnt change that for anything. every single dorm ahs its perks. gc has sinks and the biggest rooms, mcguire is full of guys and they practically consider themselves a frat because theyre so close, st mos and katharine are all extremely close, caughlin has good rooms, and stanfords is massive. stanford has 500 people in it and my wing has 34 but we honestly are all so close. being in a big dorm makes it really easy to meet new people. even if you dont live on south, you live in delurey or dblock as they call themselves, moriarty, or odywer. all these dorms not on south are so close. everyone knows eachother and they all party together. there really is no bad place to live at nova.
yes the sophomore dorms live, but i dont know one person who doesnt want to live there next year. the quad is where everything happens.
