Villanova Social Life?

What is Villanova's social life like? Are there a lot of parties? Other than basketball is there much school spirit around sports?
Thanks!

depends on your major and your goals.

There are a decent amount of parties, but they can be a hassle to get to since they’re all obviously off campus.

A bit around football, but it’s mostly basketball.

Note: it’s really cold during the night so it can be inconvenient heading to parties/waiting for cabs/taking the train.

The social scene at Villanova is very fragmented. Athletes tend to stick together, Greek Life tends to stick together, “nationers” (Those involved in Blue Key/Ambassadors/related clubs) stick together, Music activities (acapella groups, VSMT/theatre, and dance teams) stick together etc. Some majors are more cliquey than others (I.E: The astrophysics majors almost exclusively only hang out with eachother, same with smaller majors like Computer Science and many of the Engineering majors. Whereas people in larger majors like Finance and Accounting rarely associate with others based on having the same major alone).

You’ll probably find yourself associating with your hall mates and roommates for your first semester, then as you become more involved in clubs or join greek life, you’ll find yourself associating with them. If you are in a small major you’ll see the same people in all of your classes so as freshman and sophomore year progresses, you’ll probably be socializing with them more and more.

As far as parties, your best bet is to find out about them through other people. Off campus frat parties in houses and apartments are popular among freshmen. If you’re involved in a good number of clubs then formal season can be a lot of fun too. There are various ticket parties at clubs in Philly- of course you can always trek to Philly to attend clubs/bars/events there you find yourself with your friends, or go to one of the more entertaining Drexel/Penn parties at Powelton. By middle of sophomore year most people get Fake IDs, and the “standard” weekend plan is to head to local bars on the mainline (Kelly’s, Maloney’s, Erin’s, Flips). There are a lot of options and the experience is what you make of it. Nova doesn’t really get reckless at bars and parties like larger state schools do but it can still be a lot of fun.

As far as sports, most students here are fair-weather fans. This past season the Basketball team was hot, so school spirit was at an all time high. The year before however, nobody was really excited about the team until they started winning some big games. Football is pretty exciting too as far as a D1-A football school goes, and the tailgates are fun.
