Villanova v. Colgate v. Lehigh v. Northeastern (Business)

Hey guys, just trying to gain some insight on where I would have the best opportunities. I know these schools are all very different, but this post is mostly about career opportunities. Northeastern and Nova are actually about 10k a year cheaper than Colgate and Lehigh, although my parents don't seem to make a big deal about the money. I would be a finance major at all the schools except for Colgate, where I would be econ.

After graduation I would like to be in the finance world although I'm not quite sure about the specifics yet, but IB/consulting/ER/F500 are the goal.

Thanks

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated

If financial costs were the same, I’d say Colgate and Lehigh are the strongest of the group. Out of the less expensive options, I would pick Villanova.

I’d say it is a toss up between Lehigh and Villanova. Both are excellent business programs. Colgate is a great LAC, but studying economics is very different from studying at a business school so if you do want business, I’d eliminate Colgate. The scholarship at Villanova might push me in that direction but if money is truly not an issue then pick the one that you feel most comfortable at. Maybe even re-visit the two schools during accepted student day.

@happy1 The econ vs business has definitely been a concern for me, although from what I have read most econ majors at Colgate and LACs in general usually end up with typical business jobs like a business major would (if that’s what they are looking for). I do think I would find a business education for engaging than an econ major, but I also don’t want to discount Colgate because I know it is probably the best school on my list.

Yes, business majors aren’t the only ones who work in business… and a Colgate Econ major will take you where you want to go. I think that Colgate is the only semi-target on your list.

Thanks for all your opinions guys. Any more insight before I let the thread die?

The business program at Lehigh is strong and has a wide variety of course offerings. Colgate is a great school but what if you don’t like economics as a major? Also a BA in Econ can be very different than a BS. I would look at the course catalogs before making a decision. Also, look at career services at both schools and the employers that recruit on campus.

Hi, Can you guys please help. I am still indecisive on whether I want to pursue International Relations or International Business or find a way to do both. I’ve recently been accepted to Lehigh, Bucknell, and Northeastern. I am not sure which school to choose and next week is Deposit Day! I pay about 28K for Lehigh, 16K for Bucknell and 38K for Northeastern. I’m from New York City although I have visited Lehigh and Northeastern I felt more comfortable in Northeastern’s social life than Lehigh’s but Lehigh’s campus was absolutely stunning! However I haven’t been to Bucknell yet. Any advice or insight?

Northeastern - 19
Villanova - 24
Lehigh - 31
Colgate is not ranked because it does not have a traditional business school.

Regardless of the fact that Northeastern has the best business program, I think you have to take costs into consideration. These are all very expensive prestigious private schools that aren’t cheap. It sounds like the two highest ranked schools on your list are actually going to be the cheaper options. I would lean towards Villanova or Northeastern, and probably end up with Northeastern due to their co-op program. You can’t imagine how beneficial it would be to graduate college already having interned with top companies in the Boston or New York city.

Colgate is easily the best school out of those.

Amelli,

If you want to do international business, the schools are ranked separately for that. You can see the US News rankings for international business here: http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/business-international
