Son was admitted to both business schools and loves them both. Fordham is offering Dean's scholarship of greater amount than Villanova's tiny scholarship and pretty good grant. Obvi, we would be guaranteed the scholarship $ over 4 years at Fordham and Villanova's grant amount would change from year to year based on financials (and they will change as other child in college graduates). Cannot make a decision bc he is favoring Villanova (sports are better and they have Greek life) but might want to chase the $ from Fordham. He views Fordham as a B+school versus Villanova as a A+. Should we bite the bullet and go for the more prestigious Villanova, while we still think the world of Fordham? I was contemplating appealing Villanova's offer and see if they would give us more grant $ but still wont solve the issue over the next 3 years. Any thoughts/advise?

Contentious issue that has been debated ad nauseam on this Forum.

VSB is terrific and graduates do well.

Good luck , go where you will be happiest and where it makes sense for your family.

Wow, quite the debate, but thank you for the link. Villanova seems perfect but Fordham’s proximity, internships, and contacts in NYC is so appealing. Still have a bit of time to decide. Will be visiting both schools again (have been to both several times already) and hopefully will get the feeling. Cost also matters.

[Undergrad Ranking: Top B-Schools for Internships - Businessweek](<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?)
Businessweek has ranked Nova in top 5 for internships , BW loves Villanova.

VSB has done a great job this year placing grads, as I would suspect Fordham.
Banks and other financials are back recruiting in numbers.

You have a good dilemma , either are excellent options.

As I said earlier , go where you will be happiest and where it makes sense for your family.

As for FA , can’t hurt to appeal/haggle. You won’t be the only one.

njshore,

I am currently a freshman at Fordham, I’m a member of the Global Business Honors Program in the Gabelli School of business. However, I am transferring at the end of the semester (Villanova is one of my options, along with Lehigh and Lafayette). I DO NOT want to say anything negative about Fordham because it is a fine school, but I would definitely choose Villanova.

First of all, I would definitely give an edge to Villanova for business. Fordham does have a brand new business school in Hughes Hall which is beautiful, but I still prefer Villanova’s b-school; it has great facilities and a great reputation (much higher ranking than Fordham as well). Fordham does have the proximity to NYC which is great, and I love taking trips into Manhattan, but I really think that’s the only advantage over Nova. And it’s not liek Villanova is in the middle of nowhere…you have Philly just a train ride away and there will be plenty of opportunities there.

The main reason I’m leaving Fordham is because I want a better college experience. A lot of people commute to Fordham, and a lot of people leave the school each weekend. Although you’re in new york city and can do virtually anything there, I felt like the campus was a bit dead on the weekends. There is also no school spirit, which was extremely disappointing for me. Obviously, you can’t beat school spirit when it comes to Villanova basketball, and to me it seems like there is always something to do there. Villanova has a beautiful students center which looks like a fun place to be.

When it comes to campus, you really can’t beat Fordham’s; it is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Yet, there’s nothing wrong with Villanova’s campus, it is also very beautiful and the facilties are great. One other MAJOR thing to consider is location. Fordham is in the Bronx and that takes some getting used to. I’m from Sussex County in NJ and living in the Bronx was not so much fun for me. On the other hand, Nova is in a really nice suburb and near the town of Bryn Mawr which is very nice.

I would definitely choose Villanova, but there is nothing wrong with Fordham; so many people love it there and its a great school. Also, if your son has the “Villanova Grant” is may be merit aid mixed with need, so I would call the school to see how that would change over the years; it may be more merit based than need based. Last year, I was accepted to Nova and received the Villanova Grant for 30k a year, and my father makes around 200k.

I hope this helps, good luck! and congrats on the acceptances!

My brother attends VSB and has a prestigious internship this summer in Manhattan, as do many of his friends. The Clay Center for VSB students is phenomenol. The area surrounding VU is far superior to what the Grand Concourse (sadly) outside Fordham has become.

For Undergrads, I’d say more like Villanova A-, Fordham B+. Costs the same, go to the school one prefers Costs the same, likes both the same, go to V. Cost slightly more for V, likes both the same , go t to V. Cost a significant difference with F a lot less, likes both the same, go to F, Cost a significant difference with F a lot, like V slightly more, that’s where the decision gets tough. If he likes V a lot more, and one can make it work without putting family and student at financial risk, then, V would be the go, but if it’s close, with the edge to V, and the Rep, Rank, Recognition edge to V, but really not that much, it really is a judgement call. If doable, I’d probably tell the kid to go where he liked to go and pay the excess, unless it is truly over the budgeted amounts.

thank you all for your input… very helpful in clearing up our own thoughts. My husband and I are more on page with son attending VU, even at the cost. Hopefully, I can post his choice soon. Looch2012, I will call FA and ask about grant $ and check if merit $ is calculated in the equation… hope you are right. Thanks again all!

Just in case someone else was wondering, I checked with FA office and merit $ is not at all in the villanova grant calculation… it is purely fin’l aid based from the numbers gathered from the FAFSA and CSS profile.

I would not pay more to attend Villanova. Fordham is just fine. There’s more to life than sports and Greek life.

Both really good schools, but different vibes. Can’t go wrong with either.
