my son goes to lehigh. he is a jr, accounting major. he is in a fraternity which is his whole social life. the year he started, alice gast had just become the new president. according to my son, the campus police are unbelievably strict and there has been a huge crack down on the fraternity/sorority houses. the education has been unbelievable and he has done extremely well, although he says that it is very challenging. he has said how hard the engineering program is by what he has seen with his friends. the town around campus is pretty nonexistant so most of the socializing occurs on campus.

we also live 20 min from villanova and i grew up in the area. i know nothing about the academics but i do know that housing is an issue and that as the kids move off campus, they are not just off campus but can be several towns away. the community is much nicer than bethlehem.

hope that gives you a bit of perspective. good luck with the decision making. we are going thru this again with child number 2

I would pick Lehigh, its a great school academically

Villanova is listed (at #10) under programs where PhD is not offered. [Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs - Best Colleges - Education - US News and World Report](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/spec-engineering)

lc, thanks…

here are the complete lists:

<a href=“Login - www.usna.com”>US Naval Academy Alumni Association & Foundation - www.usna.com;

with substantial graduate programs, over 3,000 students, I figured that Villanova would be in the latter set of rankings…

my bad

I’m bumping this one up as my S is trying also to decide between these two schools for engineering (also accepted by UMich & UMD-honors, but is feeling like these 2 are too big).
Anyone else have experience/knowledge of these schools?

Lehigh is situated between Philadelphia and New York, and has a beautiful campus. Lehigh also has great sports and a beautiful football stadium that offers a great view next to the mountain in the autumn when the leaves are turning colors. Lehigh is part of the Patriot League and plays Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette etc. and many of the Ivy’s (Harvard, Princeton, Yale, etc… in football every year). The annual Lehigh - Lafayette football game is the most played rivalry in college football. Lehigh is also always ranked nationally in Wrestling. The Lehigh Valley (Bethlehem, Allentown, and Easton) has a lot of good Restaurants and Pubs. The Triple-A Phillies are in the Lehigh Valley, and the Philadelphia Eagles Summer Camp is at Lehigh. There are also a couple -100,000 people living in the area. Bethlehem (the Christmas City) has great annual events, such as the Music Fest, and Celtic Classic… as do the other Cities in the Lehigh Valley. The Lehigh Valley is home to Lehigh, Lafayette, Cedar Crest, Muhlenberg, and Moravian Colleges. There are many cultural events in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding colleges, and the activities and social life are 2nd to none.
