Villanova vs. Richmond vs. Boston College

These are my final three schools, and I am struggling to make a decision. Financially they are all equivalent for my family. I am undecided on my area of study. I have been admitted to BC Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences and Villanova School of Business. I want a small to medium private university in an urban environment. Greek life is not a deal breaker. I have visited Richmond and Boston College and loved them both. I haven’t seen Villanova yet, but plan to attend an admitted student day. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

You say you are undecided but you were admitted to Villanova’s SOB and BC’s A&S. If you are strongly considering business there’s good news and bad news. All have great business schools. Your issue with BC will be transferring in to the program. My understanding is it’s VERY difficult to transfer. They have direct admission, fill the class , and virtually no one leaves. If business is your primary pursuit, I wouldn’t consider BC for that reason.

It sounds like you’re looking to explore several options which is great. BC will make that challenging. Easy to transfer out of Carroll, very hard to transfer in.

Richmond is a pretty simple process. You take business prereqs and as long as your GPA is pretty good, you track into their excellent program.

BC is the most highly regarded currently but the other two are really highly thought of as well. I think Villanova with the SOB direct admit is the way to go if that’s your dream/plan. Very hard to change. Richmond is great too. Better weather and beautiful.

Sounds like you don’t have a “bad choice” out of the three you mentioned. You mentioned going to Villanova admitted student’s day…make sure you do. My daughter was direct admit to the school of nursing and we flew out about a week and a half ago (we are from Southern California). We were on campus about five minutes before she decided that Nova was it for her. Beautiful campus, great school spirit (probably helps that we were there the week of the championship)…I am a firm believer that visiting the campus just gives you a feeling one way or another (BTW, she was actually already commited to another school and we had to pull her commitment for her to attend Nova, she felt that strongly about it! Very highly rated business, engineering, and nursing schools. Best if luck to you!

@Nursesmom way to go! Villanova is so nice and I work with many grads. They are smart and completely well rounded. Nursing is a hot career. Niece just started as pediatric er nurse at Boston’s children. She is so happy with her career and sense of lifetime employment possibilities

Are you undecided within business or entirely undecided? The answer to that is very important. Why did you decide to apply to VSB but not CSOM? It is very difficult to transfer into CSOM from MCAS at BC; however, it may help to know that CSOM finally added more minors that will be available to MCAS students beginning this fall. http://bcheights.com/2018/03/01/minors-finance-accounting-marketing-be-offered-all-undergrads/

These three are primarily suburban. The degree of urban experience available at each differs a bit. BC borders on an urban area and an urban experience is readily accessible. Villanova has a train to Philadelphia; you may wish to find out how useful that is for the type and frequency of urban experience you are seeking. And look around within the U Richmond forum for discussions about getting off-campus.
