Villanova vs. Univ of Miami vs. Univ of Richmond

Like all of us, thinking through my options. Since Villanova, Univ of Miami and Univ of Richmond appear in separate rankings in US News College Report, it's hard to get a handle on which is the better school and has the better reputation. My gut tells me Villanova, but I'd be interested in what other think. Thanks!

depends… whats your intended major?

Largely undecided; leaning towards journalism and political science, or international study. From my perspective, all three have the potential areas I want to study. I just need to visit the ones I haven’t visited and see what feels right to me. I’m just curious on reputation.

I think Villanova is roughly equal to U. of Richmond in reputation, for whatever that is worth.

You might also think about where you want to work after college. Both mainly have regional alums, so for networking purposes, you are better off going to college near where you want to eventually work.

Definitely visit each college and try to talk to some current students. There are different personalities of students, if for no other reason than Richmond attracts more southern students.

I dont think I would say Richmond attracts mostly southern students. I think its actually the opposite. I heard its called a Northern school that happens to be in the south because most of the students that go there are from NJ, MA, NY, PA, etc. I would agree Richmond and Nova have about the same rep, at least at the business level

It’s all about the U! If you are interested in studying political science or international studies, Miami is the place for you. For journalism, you might be better off at Villanova or Richmond.

Here’s just a scratch of the surface:
Richmond has become very diffiuclt to get into from NJ/NY the past 4 years (1400s /1600 on SATs) not so diffiuclt if your coming from another state. The school is pristine.

Univ of Miami is very pretty in a 1980s architecture kind of way. Tremendous school spirit for football. I hear mixed reviews, some absolutely love it and others who did not like one of the prodominent social activities of going to night clubs in Southbeach. Too sleezy of a venue. You don’t have to go to the night clubs. UM gives generous merit money.

Villanova’s name is nationally recognized w/ Big East basketball (Miami has football). Typical Northeast Catholic tradition- it’s nice.

It largely depends on the atmosphere you are interested in. Villanova has the best reputation of all of these schools , but it is in the Northeast, so that might not suit you. The campus is very involved and everyone participates in community service and basketball life. The frats throw parties and there is always the traion into Philly to go to UPenn, Temple, St Johns for night life as well.

That being said, my best friends goes to U Miami and the night life there is very prominent. They go to coconut groove, and the frats throw large parties as well (though you might need a fake for some things). Their reputation is on the rise, though not yet on par with Villanova. Its a big, warm party school, and is not terribly academically rigorous, so if you’re looking for a good time, Miami is it.

Afriad I know nothing about richmond.
