Villanova vs. University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

Undergrad Business ..
A bit more fin-aid at Villanova.
Opinions?

go for michigan

go with ross at mich. I’ve talked to a lot of bankers and they heavillly recruit from ross.

depends if u were a direct admit or not…
would u really wanna risk a year of tuition banking on getting into the business program sophomore year?

I did not get preferred admit at Ross. Does anyone know if it’s very very hard to get in as a sophomore? Also, I got a full ride at Villanova … and only ~30,000 at Michigan.

keels223- i’m chuckling that you consider a ‘full ride’ to Villanova as a ‘bit-more fin aid’

There are a handful of University Business Programs that are truly national in reputation and drawing power, Michigan along with places like Wharton, Virginia, MIT and Notre Dame fit that description.

After that you move into what I think of as Super-Regionals, places like Boston College, Emory, Southern Cal, Villanova etc. These are schools that have justifiably great reputations in their area. Their programs are just as rigorous and their students just as ambitious, but they don’t carry the same name impact as the “biggies”. But in their particular region they may carry just as much impact as the national name.

Where the difference comes in is when/if you start your career looking for a job outside your university’s geographic area. Villanova grads will do well in Philadelphia and Washington DC and all the way up to Boston. But in an interview in Seattle the Michigan grad will initially have the “name” advantage.

Just remember, after you get that first job it’s going to be all about how well you perform. By job 3 or 4 the importance of where you went to school will be of minimal impact compared to how well you’ve performed in the actual workplace.

Either school will provide you a great education. Good Luck with the decision.

Emory and Boston College are options too - but little to no fin-aid. I’m from Chicago and would like to work in Chicago after college, would a Michigan degree have more strength than a Villanova degree in the Chicago job market?

^yes, definitely, nova is very prestigious in the northeast, but the farther away you go, the less it is known. Michigan is known everywhere

villanova prestige is great around its region… its 2 hours away from new york, i think u would be pretty set going to villanova on a full ride. and frankly if it was up to me, i would defiintly go to villanova on a full ride.

yaeah, villanova on a full ride is a great deal, but you are also getting $30,000 from michigan, a better known business school nationally. you wouldnt be paying much more for a business school with more advantages. why do you think you got a full ride at one and not the other? one of them is better. And your still getting a great deal anyway with $30,000 a year.

what if michigan isn’t giving that much money? is it worth the OOS cost?

keels223,
Did you get a merit scholarship from Villanova or was it all need based?

a combination of both.

youll have more mobility with michigan i think
