I was recently rejected from Villanova after I applied during the regular decision cycle. Villanova is my absolute dream school, and I really can't imagine myself elsewhere...

Does Villanova read letters of appeal? I wrote one because: my grade point average has risen significantly (I just finished my best semester yet), I changed my major from computer science to undecided, and I have recently been formally inducted into the National Honor Society. My weighted GPA is now approximately a 4.1. Do I have any chance at getting accepted? Should I call admissions after I send in my letter?

If not- which schools are comparable to Villanova (medium sized, Catholic, reputable)?

Loyola University in Maryland reminded me the most of Villanova, except it’s in a suburb of Baltimore instead of Philly.

If your heart is set on Villanova, you could try to meet with someone in admissions and plead your case. If you don’t live too far away, maybe just show up in the admissions office and ask if you could speak with an adcom staff person? At this point, you have nothing to lose. Good luck!

Thanks, everyone!! ealdi94- Yeah, I was looking at all of those great schools! They’re ranked pretty closely to Villanova as well. Aps211- I was also looking at Fordham, it seems to have pretty much everything I want, too. I am hoping that this appeal helps, I am asking my guidance counselor to write them a letter explaining that I also have had extenuating family circumstances (my little brother had brain surgery and was ill for a while, but made a full recovery!).
Sunny100- I live in Pittsburgh, but I would definitely drive to Philadelphia to plead my case, should I call admissions to do that? Should I send my letter or bring it with me?

Sunny100- I got your PM- thank you SO much! That made my day. I can’t reply to it just yet, as I have under 15 posts on here. But thank you! Do you mind if I keep in touch with you through the process?

As unfair as you rejection may seem to you and your family , your status now places you behind the 6,000 applicants accepted and another 4,000-5,000 offered a spot on wait list ( for1650 freshman spots). At best you may be placed on the wait list , unless there is some compelling issue or an enormous donation to the University.

A majority of college students do not attend their 1st choice school. A large portion of Villanova students first choice was Notre Dame , Georgetown , Wake Forest, UPenn , etc and many kids enrolled at Loyola , Fairfield , Penn St and Providence had Villanova as their dream school. Yet almost all fall in love with their schools and enjoy a rich ,memorable higher education experience.

I’m not discouraging your appeal , but also make time and emotional energy for making a good choice among your acceptances and prepare your college journey.
An appeal is unrealistic at this point , Admissions is dealing with enrollment management and issues related to the 10,000 applicants with a higher current status.

If Villanova remains your dream school , have a great academic freshman year wherever you end up and apply to transfer in , a much more realistic way in for rejection applicants.

Definately try Loyola University Maryland, my son applied and was accepted to both Loyola and Villanova. Villanova is his dream school, but Loyola could easily be his dream school too. Loyola just a little smaller/more compact. The vibe you feel at both schools is very similar. We are hoping and praying that Villanova matches or comes close to the grant he got at Loyola, otherwise he won’t be able to attend. However, he knows he has Loyola to fall back on. The point being of course is people for all sorts of reasons don’t get their dream school but do end up making a home somewhere else and loving it. I am a great believer in things working out the way they should. Definately look at Loyola - we toured Fordham too, but I thought Loyola closer to Nova in their similarities. Fordham great school too though but had a different feel for us. Good luck whatever you decide. I am sure your ambition and tenacity will see you far in your life no matter what school you end up.

Thanks, Brave Ulysses and dissnoops! I am still sending in my appeal and hopefully scheduling an interview at Villanova, but I realize that the chances of acceptance are slim to none. I’ll definitely check into Loyola Maryland, and hopefully apply there… I can always transfer to Villanova next year if things don’t work out. Thank you for all the inspiring words! :)

Yes, please stay in touch! It sounds like you’re being realistic about your chances, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up, either! And even if admissions can’t accommodate you, you’ve hopefully established a dialogue and helped yourself should you decide to transfer.

I think you made a bad move by changing your desired major from CS to Undeclared. If you remained CS and expressed an interest in their program you would have had a much better chance since they have trouble attracting CS students to their program. There are a total of 12 CS majors in the entire class of 2015, and almost all of them are here solely because they got huge scholarship offers. I’m a current CS major.
