Violin at Brown

I am a sophomore in high school and have been looking into Brown as one of my top picks. I love everything that I have been reading about it, except I can’t find information about the music life there.
I have been playing classical violin since I was 3 years old, and even though I don’t want to major in music, I want to continue taking lessons and playing in ensembles in college. I am looking for an academic university with great music opportunities.

How is the level of musicians, orchestras and ensembles at Brown?
Are there good musical opportunities for non music majors?

I would love to hear from someone who is studying at Brown! Especially music! But any help would be appreciated:)
Thanks

You should be able to find some stuff in my older posts. I was a music concentrator at Brown and was involved in orchestra, as well as other musical endeavors.

The level of playing is quite high in the orchestra - I’m sure you can find a list of their current repertoire online. The Brown music department is relatively small, and there are no courses or opportunities that are limited to music concentrators, since there simply aren’t enough of them. If you’re interested in lessons, look at the Applied Music Program, which gets you lessons with professional instructors at a reasonable extra cost (waived if you’re on financial aid).

Feel free to PM me with any other questions.
