How is the violin performance program at Blair School of Music at Vandy? I would like to play in a symphony such as Nashville, Dallas, Houston, or Ft. Worth; is Blair a good option for me? That is to say, is it for serious, SERIOUS musicians? Other music schools I am considering are Boston University and Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.

i was actually curious about this as well until i had a guy on my hall last year that was a violinist in blair. he was amazing and he said it was incredibly hard work. i believe it was harder than my engineering classes ;)but seriously, they are in class all the time, playing with conductors personally and such. i was curious about it but he said that they're really dedicated to the students. i'll ask him what he has to say and respond again but he seems to love it
he's done fiddler on the roof and has some time to mess around with friends in a bluegrass band, which is awesome.

"it really depends on who you talk to at blair, but yeah, it can be pretty intense. i have never taken fewer than 17 hrs in a semester" is what my friend said about violin performance. a big draw is the fact that students get a lot of attention because it's small, and conservatory-like for academics, but they can hang out with other people from different majors/cultures/etc. at least, that's what i've heard
