VIP application

Did anyone else get an email from Drexel about their VIP application? What exactly does this mean?

I just got it in my email too. I’m guessing they just picked somewhat high SAT scorers.

The email said that we don’t have to do the long essay, our application fees are waived, and we are automatically considered for scholarships.

i got an email about it too. im not sure though, looking for more information.

They accept the common app and their supplement says that the common app essay is acceptable and applying online is free. So what else does the VIP ap offer?

Doesn’t look to me like it offers anything different. We can apply free on-line, the major my son wants is going to want the essay regardless, and I thought all apps were automatically entered for scholarship consideration.

Use either applciation, but, since Drexel is rolling admissions, the earlier you get your application in the better.

A couple of years ago, my S applied and was accepted in late October. He was thrilled that he got into a school that he felt he could go to (with a nice sized merit scholarship) that early in the process. It took a lot of the pressure off.

Good luck to everyone!

dadinator, did your son’s school get his transcript and rec letters sent in by then as well or did they accept him based on what was on his application?

My S had his transcript and rec letters (and SAT scores) sent when he sent in his application.

Your question just reminded me that he had everything complete at Drexel by September 30 (that was his goal) and then he got accepted a few weeks later in late October.

His guidance counselor had been urging him (and the other students) to get their applications in as early as possible at all the rolling admission schools. I believe she specifiacally told him to get his application in early at Drexel, as she knew from prior experience that he would get an early answer from there.

Thanks! Our guidance counselors I don’t believe are so proactive but now that I have this sense of timing I will be.

I got a VIP email, but I’m not sure I will apply. On the plus side, I would have a full tuition scholarship from being a National Merit Finalist. However, when I think about it, there’s a slim chance that I would end up attending. I wouldn’t want to take somebody else’s spot just to net another acceptance.

I found another difference. My son decided to submit the VIP application. When you print your copy at the end it also prints the transcript request/secondary school report request form. However, there is not a form for a teacher recommendation, which the regular app requires. I even received an e-mail stating my son had applied and a reminder to keep on top of him to give the secondary school report request to his counselor and send the SAT scores. No where did it say anything about the other recommendation letter. So…we will see if they ever ask for that.
