VIP Day/email notifications?

My son was accepted OOS this past Friday into CNS computer science. We only knew from this website to check his status. He was speechless when he opened it and found out that he was accepted (while actually on campus at U Wisconsin visiting there).

We still have no emails at all from UT -- is this normal or should he contact them? We know another family from Texas who received info on VIP day yesterday after being accepted on Friday. Did everyone get that email or just a select group?

I believe UT sends acceptance letters by mail, one letter from President and one from Vice Provost/Director of Admissions.

Email would be used to remind about vaccinations, summer orientation registration, housing contract etc.

VIP invitation is no big deal.
I believe the invitations were sent to students who

  1. did not accept UT yet
  2. did not visit UT several times before
Your son can login to his account, find the event and register even without invitation. He should go if he never visited UT before. People who have been there several times would just waste time because a lot of activities repeat activities from regular visits.

My daughter got the VIP Explore UT invitation, too, and if it wasn’t for an included invitation for a lunch/info session at McCombs, she probably wouldn’t attend. She has already been to a couple of UT events, including the Honors Colloquium this past summer, and it does seem most of the information is the same.

She has been accepted to McCombs and BHP, but has not accepted enrollment yet (waiting to hear about scholarships), which might be why she is still getting phone calls from alumni and invitations to more events.

I agree you can probably register to go without the invite. Congrats to your son!

of course after booking flights from Chicago and setting up a department visit, the VIP invite as well as the department luncheon invite comes today. So, I paid the ridiculous change fee for my son and husband to stay on March 3 to at least meet other admitted students. Hope he gets some good feedback to help him discern the appropriate college choice, as these college visits over the past year or so have now exceed the cost of books at least for a good year or two.
