I am really confused about the BS/ MD program here.
https://www.pubapps.vcu.edu/honors/guaranteed/medicine/index.aspx
On the site, they say only college sophomores can get in.
It also says that here
https://www.pubapps.vcu.edu/honors/guaranteed/medicine/preferred.aspx
But a lot of people on CC say they have applied through high school, which is what I want to do.
Could somebody please help? Does one have to e-mail admissions if they want to apply while they are in high school? I am not a Virginia resident either...

Hello, I am a current Freshman in VCU’s program, so let me clarify. There are two programs offered at VCU: The first one, which I assume is the one you are interested in, is called GMED. For this, you apply your senior year of high school. The second one is called the Preferred Applicant track. This is available to current sophomores in VCU’s Honors College who want to try to essentially get GMED status. Here is the link for GMED, the one you can apply to as a senior in high school: https://www.pubapps.vcu.edu/honors/forms/ga/instructions.aspx

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Wow thank you so much! Who can I contact for more information about the program? Who is your program director? The website doesn’t say if you have to take the MCAT
Also, did you become a National Merit Finalist? I heard that a couple years ago that if you were a finalist and you attended their school, you would live in the “state room” or something cool like that.

^ The program director is Dr. Chandler. Actually, the program requirements are listed clearly on the page. Starting from the freshman class that enters this coming fall (Fall 2012), all GMED students are required to take the MCAT and obtain a score of 26 with no sub scale score below a 7.

All the requirements are listed if you scroll down on this page:

https://www.pubapps.vcu.edu/honors/guaranteed/medicine/index.aspx

And as far as I know, there is no such thing as a “state room” at VCU.

Oh I thought that was only for the preferred applicant track.
For the bs/md program, can you major in something other than bio/chem? like history? I mean, is it frowned upon? Can you study abroad without interfering with requirements? Doesn’t look like it, since you have to complete a certain number of hours for volunteer work/clinical experience per semester.
VCU sounds great! What state are you guys from??
