I have a 4.0 GPA, 34 ACT, 9 AP’s (all 4s and 5s), a job as a political staffer for a local judge, going to work as a poll clerk, probably NMSF, Furman Scholar, HPU scholar, NaNoWriMo winner, youth mentor, AIDS refugee worker, President of school MUN/PolySci/HistorySociety/EnglishSociety, and awesome Letters of Recommendation.
Do you think I could get 1693 Scholarship at William and Mary, Jefferson Scholarship at UVA, Frederick Douglass Scholarship at American University, or Presidential Scholarship at George Washington University?
I really want to study International Relations and my home state (Florida) has really poor programs for it. What do you think about my chances for those scholarships?
I don’t know, you would have to apply and see. Some of them you might have to be nominated for (Jefferson).
Apply to U Richmond as well, maybe Tulane and Pitt.
Apply to some safety schools (including some in Florida since I think NMF get a full ride instate?), where you know you will be accepted and can afford to go to.
Temple gave full tuition for ACT 32 and 3.8 GPA last year.
You may also want to apply for the Dingeldine Scholarship at James Madison University in VA. Your stats, and community service would make you a contender.
The William & Mary 1693 scholarship is extremely competitive. It is literally people that are cream of the crop. Only 6-10 students are named as scholars each year. I have the fortune of knowing quite a couple, but the scholarship includes rounds of interviews, additional essays, and the like. You probably have a good shot at being named a Monroe Scholar, but 1693 scholars are incredibly rare
Try for a Morrill Scholarship at Ohio State as well as the National Buckeye Scholarship. My DS graduated with an international relations degree there and received a full-ride back in 2010. The international relations program at OSU was pretty good according to my DS.
My 35 ACT daughter with similar stats was selected as a Monroe Scholar, but was not invited compete for 1693 scholarship at W&M. She was awarded a full tuition scholarship to George Mason U in VA, just outside of DC in Fairfax, VA, it’s a good VA public that gets overshadowed by VTech and UVA, but is expanding, growing its honors program, etc. She was also awarded a full tuition scholarship by U of Richmond, which she attends and she loves it there, definitely worth a look as suggested in earlier post.
