What do you guys think of Virginia schools: VCU, UVA, EVMS?

... by what standards would you like us to evaluate them?

I think he/she meant by its premed and medical schools. I actually got scholarship from vcu so I was wondering the same thing. The school itself generally isn't so great.

Even if we understand the question, he still needs to explain what's important to him about a school.

Well I was hoping that you would answer them anyways regarding how is the med school and the premed program.

What I'm trying to tell you is that "how is" is a ridiculously vague question.

Obviously this depends upon what you are looking for in a school.

If being in Virginia is very important to you, then obviously those are the best three schools in the country. If in-state tuition is very important, and you are a Va resident, the same applies. If you do NOT want to stay in Virginia, then obviously these are very bad schools.

Are you looking for schools which have a high proportion of their premeds getting in, even if they screen? Are you looking for schools which don't screen? Small schools? Large ones? Ones with sports teams? Schools in nice neighborhoods? Schools with nice kids? Smart kids?

You need to specify what you're looking for before anybody can answer the question.

Academically regarding medicine.

This is still a ridiculously vague question. For one thing, you still haven't specified whether you mean their undergraduate premedical curriculum or their medical school.

Beyond that, students value different things.

Are you asking about the quality of the research those schools do? The attention you'll receive from faculty? The caliber of the students around you? (Do you want that to be high or low?) How well the faculty teach? How well they write grants? Whether you'll get a chance to do research? Get it funded? Whether people on the street will have their eyes bug out when you tell them?

Schools are academic centers. Asking how a school's academics are is like asking how a hospital's patient care is. Just as different patients need different things out of hospitals, different students need different things out of schools.

You have to tell us more about who you are and what you want before we can even start searching for answers to your questions.

I think UVA is the top med school in the state. After that probably MCV- which is affiliated with VCU, and then the rest

Old thread bub :)
