Virginia Tech Chance (I'll chance back)

Alright, well I applied early decision to Virginia Tech and I was appreciate your opinion on whether or not I'll get in. I didn't apply to the engineering program by the way. I'll chance back too :) :

White

Male

SAT Scores:
M: 650
CR: 610
W: 610
Total: 1870

ACT Scores:
E: 32
M: 26
W: 30
S: 28
Cumulative: 29

At Virginia Tech they convert ACT scores to SAT scores and also cross-combine tests, so since a 32 English score on the ACT equals a 720 on the SAT, plus my 650 from SAT Math

= 1370 overall score.

GPA: 4.3 Weighted, 3.5 Unweighted

Class Rank: 69 out of 500, but there is a Leadership program at my school and the students in it have easier classes than non-leadership students and get the same credit for it...

APs (8): AP English 11, AP World History, AP US History, AP English 12, AP Env. Sci., AP French 5, AP Calculus, & AP Statistics.
Dual Enrollment (1): Honors Webmaster

ECs (weak point): JV (1 year) and Varsity (1 year) school soccer, club soccer, job at Friendly's (1 year), French club (2 years), BETA Club (2 years).

Other Notes:
- My sister currently attends Virginia Tech and is one of the top accounting students there.
- I have a recommendation from a member of the Board of Admissions at Virginia Tech.

Thanks for your help and I'll chance you back :).

please? :)

Your sat act scores, even if they are cross combined are somewhat low because every other applicant there will also have their scores cross combined as well. Your rank and courseload is pretty good but there’s really nothing distinguishing in your extracurriculars. However, the last two things you mentioned, the legacy and the recommendation from a member of the Board of Admissions will probably help you alot. How’s your sat II scores?

I didn’t take them :/. The 25th to 75th percentile at Virginia Tech are 1160 to 1340 though, so do you think that would change anything? My extracurriculars worry me–I didn’t realize the importance of having leadership roles in clubs until it was pretty much too late. I was hoping that my GPA/SAT scores/legacy would really push me ahead of the pack, but I don’t know. Thanks for your opinion btw :).

bump bump :)

Anyone’s input would be greatly appreciated :)

Virginia Tech is purely a stats school. They don’t look at ECs. Honestly I think you have a great chance of getting in!

I say a very good chance of you attending VT next year; enjoy being a Hokie :)

Your GPA and SAT are good enough, ECs won’t matter too much @ VT. That rec letter will be a nice boost as well. Good luck!

I’d say you’re a match! As long as you write a decent essay, your rec and family ties should push you right in! Thanks for the chance btw!

Thank you all for your chances, I was at VT for the weekend and I just got home, I’ll chance you back now big dreamer :).

No problem truzzi :). Any other opinions would be appreciated :).

I say you’re a good match. My friend visited V Tech and talked to the admissions officer. They said he was in if he just sent his application in. He had 1890 on his SATs. (You’re math and reading are better). He just has more leadership EC’s and he’s number 2/460… but you’re pretty close so good luck! (P.s. how was your essay?)

thanks  and it was pretty good I’d say, but of course I would feel that way ;).

“At Virginia Tech they convert ACT scores to SAT scores and also cross-combine tests, so since a 32 English score on the ACT equals a 720 on the SAT, plus my 650 from SAT Math”

You have this mixed up, their is a separate converter that changes the composite score to SAT score, in reality you have a 1290 I think? [ACT-SAT Concordance](The ACT Test for Students | ACT)

However, if you’re in state for Virginia then you will most likely get accepted

When they came to my school, the representative said that they would cross combine SAT/ACT section scores (English, Math) and that they converted ACT scores to SAT scores during this process. I found on various websites that a 32 ACT English was equivalent to a 700-720 SAT score and that combined with my SAT Math score of 650, is between a 1350 and a 1370. I just checked on the information that VT had for my application and they didn’t even have my ACT Composite score, they only have the two sections, Math and English. So I believe that they won’t use my ACT Composite score, and yeah I live in Virginia. Thanks for your input :)

Anyone else have an opinion? :)

I think you’re good.
