Hey guys, I'm a student (unfortunately) coming out of the competitive realm that is Northern Virginia. My goal is definitely Virginia Tech so it would be great to have some input on my admissions chances since the information the Tech website gives me can see the decision go either which way. (I apologize for the repost, I'm just a little worried is all)

I also have a lot of job experience to go along with this, including an internship. Leave your link and I will chance you back, thanks!

I’m not sure Penn State is a non-reach because Penn State is 2/3 GPA and there is a significant discrepancy between UW and weighted since you took honors on top of APs… your UW is much less than 3.5, and that’s what Penn State uses.

I’m not disagreeing with you but according to Naviance, the college match program my high school uses, and in comparison to those accepted from my school last year, I’m actually considered amongst those in the upper quadrant of acceptances. I agree, by university park standards that sounds incorrect but it is clearly depicted on our schools scattergram – not to mention my counselor even considered it a non-reach.

I think tech for you is probably a high match/low reach. You seem to have taken a very rigorous course load, but last year at my school no one got into tech that didn’t have at least a 4.0 W GPA. You have really great ECs though, so I think you most definitely have a chance.

I don’t know too much about Penn State, but JMU and George Mason are very similar in their acceptances, so if you got into JMU I’m almost positive you’ll also get into GMU.

Good luck! I really hope that you make it into Tech :)

Thank you guys! Really appreciate the honesty.

@betweenthetrees: that’s mainly the reason I was asking. A lot of people from my school apply to the engineering school, which unfortunately somewhat skews the accepted gpa/scores for those not applying engineering. But thank you I hope it works out as well!
