virginia tech engineering chances

Can I get into Virginia Tech Engineering(I will be applying early decision)? Here are all of my statistics:
SAT Score:
Math:730
Critical reading: 640
Writing: 650

High School Courses and Grades:
9th Grade:
All A's: History HN, Algebra 2 HN, Biology HN, Latin 2, Gym, English HN, Basic Tech Drawing

10th Grade:
As in: Chemistry HN, English HN, Precalculus HN, Gym, AP Computer Science A
A- in : Latin 3, AP world History

11th Grade:
As in : AP Latin, BC Calculus, History HN, Physics HN, Engineering Drawing, AP Language
A- in: AP Chemistry

GPA through junior year: 4.4420
Weighted: 3.9625

12th grade schedule: Advanced Engineering/Architectural Drawing(my third year in this type of class where we using Inventor, revit, max design, and autocad) , AP Physics C(double blocked), Multivariable Calculus/matrix Algebra(semester of each), AP Government, AP Literature, Personal Finance and Economics(required for graduation)

I'm also and All state track athlete(not fast enough for varsity on Techs Team but am still considered "good")
All state in science Olympiad, 2nd at states and 4 top 6 performances at the Regional level.
Event captain of science Olympiad event(leadership position)
several volunteer hours for youth track team and local library

I Live in Northern Virginia (Fairfax county) which is a highly competitive academic but I am in the top 5% or so in my class(school doesn't have official ranks)

So here is my question what are my chances of being accepted into the engineering school? Also If I do not get into the engineering school how easy is it to switch to an engineering major as that is what I am set on doing? I will chance back thanks.

Collegeresults estimates the median VT SAT score to be about 1210/1600 (590V, 620M); you’re at 1370 (640CR, 730M), well above that. SAT = more than good enough.

Your grades: you mean UNweighted GPA 3.96. (Unweighted means no bonus point given for AP or Honors courses, just the raw grade.) You might be pleasantly surprised to learn that many schools recalculate your GPA for admissions purposes and ignore +/- (which not all schools use), so your transcript would actually reflect perfect record of straight 'A’s.

You are a Virginia resident. It is difficult to overstate the advantage this provides in admission to Virginia’s public schools. Rest assured it is a huge advantage.

My opinion: unless you have serious black marks on your record (ever been expelled? ever been arrested for a crime?), you are pretty much guaranteed admission to VT eng, you are at least competitive for other public schools such as UVA and WM, and you would probably be doing yourself a DISservice to apply under VT’s binding ED unless you’re absolutely, positively sure it’s your first choice school. For example, do you KNOW you would take VT eng over UVA eng, no matter what? If not, don’t apply binding ED.

thanks for the feedback, I do not have any illegal activity or suspension/expulsion so that part is fine. Also before this goes into a UVA vs VT engineering debate I would chose VT any day because while the programs are not too different and UVA has a “better name” VT is much better fit for me when factoring other things non academia. Other schools I am looking at are Notre Dame, Colorado School of Mines, RPI, Rice, UWash, but all in all Virginia Tech has them all beat on pretty much every front. Next choice would be Notre Dame but it is not as strong in engineering and the cost is far greater compared to the in state VT. I feel that early decision is best for me because it is my number 1 choice. Thanks again for the feedback!

You are from NoVA, so your competition is within your own hs and then in the county. Go into Naviance; if you’re in the high end of the historical number range for kids from your hs.then you should be ok.

Anyone want to take a look at my stats?
I have a 3.88 weighted (My high school is extremely competitive)
Math: 720
Reading: 530
Writing: 510
I am involved in about 10 extracurriculars, and I have taken the hardest math and science classes each year. I am currently in AP physics C and AP Calc. I am from out of state and I am applying ED. What are my chances?

Is the engineering program much more competitive than the other majors? Because I wasn’t worried about getting accepted with a general 70% acceptance rate, but all of your stats are so good.

Female, Out of state, mechanical engineering
Math: 690
Verbal: 590
GPA (UW): 3.7/4
GPA (W): 4.9/5
I swam varsity all 4 years, senior captain. I also do club swimming, and I work 15 hours/week. 44 hours of college credit by graduation. (Lots of extra classes at the local community college).

@soccerplayer5‌ I think your stats are pretty solid. Better than mine, but I hope that being a female in STEM will give me an advantage.

I think you will get in no problem.

My son was accepted for this Fall 2014. You GPA is higher and I’m not sure with his SAT scores against yours? He sent in his ACT score which was 30. He was OOS (PA) and was also given merit aid. He did accept and chose PSU.

I’m applying regular decision to Virginia Tech this winter. Could someone also help me out?

My GPA is 4.21/4.5

My ACT is 36 writing, 35 math, 29 reading, 29 science (32 average)

SAT Subject Tests: 800 Chem, 780 Math 2

I have taken AP Chem, AP physics, and AP lit. This year I am in AP psych, calc BC, AP spanish, and AP lang

On average according to naviance VT wants 3.73 GPA and 30 ACT from my school.

I feel that my GPA is way above what they ask for, but considering my ACT, is this a safety for me? I’m kind of worried about not having enough safeties… also I live in MA and I’m in a lot of clubs including MUN and I love volunteering.

What do you think?

Ramira, You qualify but it’s not a safety due to the fact that they limit OOS to a certain percentage by law. A true safety would be in state for you or a private you can pay for without huge loans.

This is mine- I got through Vtech’s engineering
