All state in science Olympiad, 2nd at states and 4 top 6 performances at the Regional level.
Event captain of science Olympiad event(leadership position)
several volunteer hours for youth track team and local library

I Live in Northern Virginia (Fairfax county) which is a highly competitive academic but I am in the top 5% or so in my class(school doesn't have official ranks)

What do you guys think my chances are for acceptance to Tech. Also what would my chances be for Coloroado School of Mines and University of Colorado at Boulder Engineering?

Your chances are great! I also want to go to VA Tech and I’m in NoVa too!

Yes – looks good. Also from NOVA. My D got into Tech, Boulder but was waitlisted at Mines.

Like 100% chance

I would shoot for UVA with those stats…

vatech has better engineering

@BassGuitar Tech is significantly better for engineering though UVA is better for pretty much everything else

You should get into all of them

Chance back

@Runner22 at the risk of turning this into yet another Tech Engineering vs. UVA Engineering thread, I’ll just say that employers only care about the prestige of undergrad. You’re getting the same basic education at UVA as Tech. Physics is Physics, Calculus is Calculus, ect.

Hey, Runner22 and zimbozone: Did you guys get into VaTech, Mines? Same targets as my DS, but he has lower GPA. Also from Northern VA. Quotas (that we are not supposed to know about!) at UVa and VT are hard to deal with even with great stats.

Yep, lots of NOVA kids with great stats don’t get into VaTech. And unfortunately, waitlisted kids at VaTech more likely than not do not gain admission. That’s what happened to a kid from a Fairfax family that I know.

@Leyland I am a junior so…ya. I apply next year. Ill be happy to tell you what happens if you want though
