Hi,
Rutgers is very close to me, I do not wish to get too far from my family. the old saying is “go to the best college you can get into” and no doubt VT (honors) is better than Rutgers, my question is how DOES IT MATTER? I like electronics and I’ve covered a lot of materials on my own, same applies to math. I’d say I have decent skills of reverse engineering of simple to moderate circuits, a lot of people also tell me that I’m the kind of guy that college will not make/break.
It won’t matter.
For engineering, any ABET accredited program will have similar curriculum.
Do what makes sense for you…if you want to be close to your family, be close to your family. Do try to gain some independence…if you can live on campus that would be good.
If you are a good student you will shine whereever you go.
Get involved with research, talk to professors, and you will do great.
Both are well respected national level universities with fine engineering programs. Both have great resources and opportunities. If Virginia tech is affordable with small or no loans, then that may work.
NJ folks love to dismiss Rutgers . I know folks who cosigned loans with their kids so they could have the experience of going away to Virginia Tech . Kids are paying off the loans after getting a job, but living a frugal lifestyle.
