Hi,everyone. I'm an international student who just got admssion from Virginia Tech, however, not into my dream major---architecture. I browsed vt's website and found that enrolled students who want to transfer to architecture could apply for it as internal transfer.
Did anyone know how hard it is to transfer like this ?

First off congratulations for being accepted at VT! Your question was asked on the Virginia Tech forum recently, so I have cut and pasted what I wrote then:

I read on the architecture website that you can apply for an internal transfer after the fall semester of your freshman year, but if you are accepted in the spring to attend the Summer Qualifying Design Lab you will need to go to both of the summer school sessions. There is a risk involved with this as well. Even if you go to both of these summer studio labs, you are not guaranteed as an entering student in the architecture program. Here is a link for FAQ from the CAUS site:

From what I can tell, if you are successful as a transfer, you are probably looking at needing at least another year, which would be 6 years rather than the 5 year BARCH.
Good luck to you!

This is a good heads-up for students to be aware of. I've seen similar statements from other schools and get the feeling that BArch programs have such rigid required curriculum that transfers typically have to start as first year students.
