I live in San Diego California. I am completely torn between the two schools. Virginia Tech is a beautiful college town where as UCSB is on the beach and does not seem very exciting to me. It seems like San Diego and I want to get away from here. The thing is, Santa Barbara is closer and ranked #42 where as Virginia Tech is ranked in the 70's. Not that ranking is everything, but I don't want to go to Virginia Tech and find out that it was a school that is looked down upon. I need help choosing. Any suggestions?

bump10char doodooo

lol not interested in that.

is VaTech giving you any money? Why would you pay OOS rates?

This should be easy – UCSB!

What major?

gorehpakoreh, You have asked this question about Virginia Tech before (is it a school that is looked down upon?). People have repeatedly told you no. It is ranked #71 overall in national universities but its’ engineering and architecture programs are ranked much, much higher (not that rankings are all that). So,you would get a fine education at Virginia Tech. That being said, if UCSB is ranked #42 and you are instate there, it would seem to be your best bet-unless VT is giving you tons of money or your scheme to get a rich philanthropist to fund your education has come through!

Haven’t you already had to commit to one of these universities (5/1), or are you double deposited? As sevmom says you’ve been asking this question (or a version of this question) for some time. Unless you have a special circumstance (ie extension to deposit), it’s well past time you make this decision with the information you have.

Yee. So true.

Depends on where you plan to live after graduation. If you settle in the east then VT, but if you plan on living and working in Cali then go to UCSB as we know it’s a great school.
