I've been accepted into Virginia Tech and their business program. Im also considering the University of Maryland-College Park, and if I went there, I would not be guaranteed admission into their business program. I would be paying instate tuition at Virginia Tech, but personally I feel that Maryland is the better school and I like it a lot. If $ is an issue I will be going to Virginia Tech, but will I be making a mistake picking Virginia Tech over UMD or vice versa? I know at UMD i'd have great opportunities for jobs/internships because its right near D.C. and Baltimore but i'd like to hear some thoughts on these two schools.

I would take UMD for the location, and to have more of a rounded college experience.

thanks, anyone else?

theyre both pretty similar, i dont think umd is worth 20k tuition over vt at 6k or whatever...

bump, anymore opinions?

Ordinarily, I would say UMCP (I am the parent of a happy and satisfied UMCP student).

BUT, you say that you are not guaranteed admission to the business major at UMCP. Consider how you will feel if you are get through the first two years at UMCP and then don't get into the business major. How important is that major to you?

Also, UMCP has very extensive general education requirements. Completing those PLUS completing the prerequisites for the business major PLUS completing the prerequisites for an alternative major (in case business turns you down) may be quite a chore. Do you really want to do this when you have a guaranteed business major available at an only slightly less prestigious school?

I vote for VT.

You seem to prefer UMD. If money is a major issue, I still don't think you should go there over VT, but it depends on how much the cost matters to you.

yea thas the thing, id be entering UMD as a sophomore and im not sure how many credits they would accept. Ive taken basically all general math, science, history classes so I'd assume all 30 of my credits would transfer, but its basically coming down to money and whether or not I think I can get into the business school after a year, as UMD is a more rigorous school than the one im at right now.
