Virginia Tech, Pitt, or UMD Spring

I got accepted to all three (plus towson and penn state) but I really don't know what to do! I didn't receive much aid from any of the schools, aside from Pitt who offered a 4k grant (all of the schools were low reaches/high targets, didn't expect much aid.) UMD was my first choice but has fallen because going there would mean missing my first semester of college. I visited Virginia Tech and loved it, just felt like the town might get stale after a couple months there. UMD is instate. Visiting Pitt on saturday.

Should I go somewhere then transfer in the spring? Go to community college and miss that first semester? Go somewhere all together? HELP!

(Parents are willing to pay for anything so long as I keep my grades up.. not taking out loans so I dont expect debt, just more or less of a burden on my parents)

They seem like very different schools. I hate that spring admit option that UMCP does; it seems like an option that is good for CP and nothing else.

My daughter was admitted to UMCP last year, but she liked Pitt better and is there. What are you thinking about majoring in?

Pitt is a one-hour flight to BWI on Southwest, so you will have cheap transportation if distance is an issue. It isn’t a bad drive either when the snow isn’t flying.

I’m currently undecided, and not really sure what kind of field I want to go into either. I just want the school that will help me find who I am. They are all very different, just for that reason. I approached selecting colleges in a manner that would actually give me options on where id go, rather than having the same university repeated with minor discrepancies.

Well…all of these schools are fairly large with fairly impersonal administration, advising, etc. “Finding yourself” at any large state school is going to be kind of “on you.”

While CP has some obvious academic strengths, if you’re totally undecided all are kind of “in the same tier.”

VTech is significantly more rural than either…

UPitt is much more of a “city campus” than either…

How much more do you like CP? Have you visited the others? I think CP is a good school but if you like both VTech and Pitt there’s no reason to take Spring admit if you can go to another school that you also like, unless either would cause a big burder on your parents.

Writing from Pittsburgh currently, I’ve narrowed things down to Virginia Tech or Maryland in the fall. I think I might enroll at Tech for the fall, and if things don’t settle well, transfer. I loved both campuses when I visited and honestly couldn’t choose between the 2, so I’m looking at it as if UMD chose for me. Thanks!

I am in the same situation as you, too. I got accepted by Pitt (Business), VTech (Engineering) and UMD for Spring semester, I don’t know where should I go, they all sound very impressive, I guess I will go to Pitt instead of doing engineering at VTech.
