I have been accepted to both Virginia Tech and James Madison University (I also got into George Mason but I really don't want to go there.) I plan on majoring in Political Science and I also plan on going to law school after I get my undergraduate degree. Which of my options would be the best choice for what I am planning to do?

Please help me I am in desperate need for advice!

I know I should make my choice based on personal fit; the only problem is that I like them both and I could see myself being happy at VT or JMU. (I dont have a clear cut decision because neither was my first choice- UVA rejected me and GW is way too expensive) So that is why I need a little more direction when it comes to which of these schools would be best for my intended major.

As for GMU I know it is a great school, my sister goes there. It is just too close to home for me and I really feel like I need to get away.

Thanks everyone and please keep the feedback coming!

tech has better name recognition - and i was always under the impression that tech was a step higher than jmu. but in reality neither really offers a better education (except for engineering at tech). You should just visit both and see which one you like better. tech has a nicer campus imo - but jmu has really hot and easy girls. soooo take it as you will ;-).

I just remember the colorful brochure that JMU gave me a year ago highlighting its accomplishments in pre-law, business, and communications.

I think both are comparable in that area and since you aren't interested in the sciences/engineering I would probably choose JMU for its social life and women :)

i was thinking about jmu or tech too. I just visited tech a few days ago. From what i have experienced, it is a beautiful campus... ratio is pretty even.. there is not much of a city life, except on what is on campus (which there is a lot of things to do on campus), love the drill field.... and academically... they are beast in engineering and i think sciences? i know a bme down there and she loves it. I also know a marketing major, and the business courses are solid. word of advice, if u go there, try not to do university studies, because it is difficult to transfer out (not impossible, but difficult) I have yet to visit jmu, but i heard that it has more women then men, it is notable in the journalism area, and liberal artsy kind of stuff. I know some highway cuts through it, so it may not be as aesthetically pleasing. Overall, i think they are on the level, and if you can get a great job with either of the two schools. Other than that.... i dont know what else to say. its like asking.. who'd win the fight? a hokie or a duke?

JMU's campus isn't nearly a beautiful as Tech's- but I did find it to be attractive. I agree both VT and JMU are good schools- it is just hard to pick which is best for me. So I am trying to weigh the pros and cons of both schools. Anyway, do you know anything about either Tech or JMU's Political Science departments?

Definitely go with Virginia Tech. Its career services are far better. Our job placement is ridiculously high, and not to mention the social life and general academic life is far better. And of course don't forget the incredible experience of Hokie football!!
