Vision 2011

Hey so I know it isn't an offer of admission, but is it a good sign that I got invited to the Rice Vision Program?? Either way, it sounds like a lot of fun and I am definitely going to go. At the bare minimum it's another opportunity to visit Rice again!

I got the invitation as well and I was wondering the same thing! It sounds like a great opportunity.

The faq said “you were specifically selected to attend this program because our preliminary review led us to believe that you could be a great match for Rice” So I have high hopes for what it means! I just wish it wasn’t smack dab in the middle of FIRST Robotics build season.

Hope I can get out and see you guys there!

It means that Rice is interested in you. Which is a good thing. it will be a chance to meet people, get to know Rice better and see if it is your first choice.

Hi. My S attended Vision two years ago and I think his experience at the weekend led to his choosing Rice. I was wondering where the posters are from that received the invitation? M D has applied as well and I hope she gets invited to Vision, although she attended Preview Days in the fall (expense paid trip). Hoping it comes in the mail soon. My S loves Rice and congratulations on your invitiations!

Vision is only for URM’s, correct? Or would it also include first generation, low income white kids?

GIVE VISIONS A CHANCE!

if you are unsure about Rice, Visions weekend can either make (which it did for me) or break your decision to come to Rice. Its honestly the best possible way to get a glimpse into what life will be like at Rice if you decide to come here. I know because I attended visions around this time last year, and I am now a freshman here!

PM me if you have any questions!

I was on the Minority Interest Committee last year, the group that organizes this event (along with admission staff). As an alumi, I will be at one of the dinners this year, so excited. If anyone has any questions, feel free to message me.

Those of you who have been invited for the VISION Program have you already been accepted into Rice?

I want to get invited to this program but I applied under the Regular Decision

I don’t think Vision Weekend is for accepted students.

I read that Vision Weekend is for students who got accepted under the Early Decision and those who had a strong minority background for the Regular Decision.

Exactly. I believe it is for URM’s who applied RD but have not been admitted yet. I do not know what the criteria for attending is though (other than being a URM)

Well, I hope I get invited everyone seems to be getting their letters already -.-

I’m Hispanic and REALLY considering Rice.

I’m really excited for it now! It seems like such a great time and opportunity. Thanks for all the help everyone!

I just bought my plane ticket, and on a scale of 1-10, I’m rocking a 11 in terms of excitedness. A first generation kid, I’ve never set foot in anything but a community college. I can’t wait to walk the halls of Rice’s residential colleges!

So…I didn’t get invited…is this a bad sign? Does this mean I have a lower chance of getting in?

Im not sure how they determine who shows up. Regardless, your application will have the final say in whether you get in or not, so don’t worry too much.

I was accepted under ED and got an invite to Vision, and was looking into going. Is this a more prospective student oriented event to show what Rice has to offer?

^^^ Yea from everything I have seen and been told, Vision is a recruiting event (mainly for minorities) for Rice to show what it has to offer to prospective students.

Rstijerina - It is for ED students and RD students who have applied but have not been accepted yet. When I said that, I was referring to the RD crowd (as Rice is probably trying to showcase itself to them - the ED people are coming anyways!)

My bad for the confusion
