visis report

Just came back from a visit and had to comment what a beautiful campus. I know this school doesn't have the best rep but it looked like a place where a student could excel if they apply themselves.

I certainly hope you are correct. The reputation as a party school is a real turnoff for me. The price is right and the opportunities are there. I guess it just depends on your options and what you are willing to put up with in a college culture. Maybe OU is undeserving of the reputation it has and is a great place to learn and grow up. I guess one would have to go there to find out the answer.

This school has earned its rep. If you go to Youtube you’ll find a ton of videos of drunk stupid kids.

S2 will be entering his Jr year next month as a CS major. Believe me, the opportunities are there if one is a serious student. He has spent this summer interning at a software company (was recruited at an on-campus career fair). He is not a “partier”, but IMO you can finding excessive partying at almost any college campus without trying too hard.

Active music festival scene, hip students, engaged professors, great majors, students are happy with their choice. Parent of an OU sophomore here ~ I am very happy with son’s choice.

Thank you Snugapug. If anyone else with actual experience at OU has anything positive to say it would be greatly appreciated. I think the Gateway scholarship makes this school a bargain. Some of the programs really seem to be top notch. Also, there is a strong alumni network. I just don’t like the reputation and am trying to make myself feel better about the place with the help of people on CC:)

Snugabug, I tried to PM you, but apparently you have to have posted on CC 15 times before they let you send a direct message. Anyway, my oldest is going to OU in the fall and it was a trade-off. She loved KZoo and Sewanee. She really felt that she would fit in better at a small liberal arts college, but we are in-State and she got into a program with a lot of opportunities for her particular major. So, anything you could tell me about your son’s experience would be great! I’m sure she will be fine. I think I am the only one worrying!
