We’re doing a last-minute East Coast spring break college visit trip - it’s a whirlwind trip for a bunch of reasons and our time on each campus is limited. So in visiting:

Brown
Yale
Vassar
University of Pittsburgh

…any advice on “must-sees” or any other commentary/comparisons would be greatly appreciated!

Our daughter is a senior, planning on majoring in cognitive/neuro-science or something similar, and won’t know if she’s in at Brown, Vassar, or Yale until we’re on the trip. She’s got great stats etc., etc. so hopefully she’ll have the opportunity to choose from some of the schools above plus some others closer to home (Midwest).

I would try to stay the night in Brown, since the streets around the university are very picturesque, they have lots of places for dinner and you can see the student body at “ease”, provided they are not on break. At Yale, it is fun to eat lunch in one of the houses - try Pierson, you see the inside of the historic house and see the student body. The area around Vassar, to me, is somewhat depressing, so I wouldn’t make it my stop, rather a drive through. It would be helpful to know the direction you are traveling before giving you advice (starting in Providence or going to Providence).

Brown’s spring break starts today, March 23, 2012.

It’s going to be pretty dead around Brown for the next week. There might be a few more students at the end of the week than the beginning. (or chose visit time at whatever weather looks better) Another option would be to plan the trip based on admit notification dates, so you could skip any schools you might hear a “no” from before you get there? (If U Pitt and Vassar are earlier. They are more out of the way to get to, though.

The order is Brown, Yale, Vassar, Pittsburgh. She’s already in at Pitt and we’ll know about Vassar before we get there, but we have to visit Brown and Yale before the decision date (29th). Wish it wasn’t spring break for Brown.

Head up to Faunce House (student center and snack bar) (renamed S. Robert Center but still commonly known as Faunce) when you are there in the middle of the day and you should be able to find some of the students who are still on campus.
