Visit Emory or NYU???

i have a dilemma. i was accepted to both NYU and Emory. NYU is paying for me to go visit march 31st-april 2nd. if i go, i get $100,000, not including their need-based aid. Emory has a visitation program for URMs from april 1st-4th. if i qualify for travel assistance, they will also pay for my ticket. the only thing is they haven't told me how much money they're gonna give me. basically, my parents told me they're only gonna pay $6000 a year for college. so i pretty much need close to a full-ride. which one would be more worth to visit? i'm leaning towards emory cuz it will be four days and i get to miss 3 days of school. i hear NYU gives out LOTS of loans, and my parents arent gonna take out loans, so i dont wanna go to NYU and fall in love with it just to be disappointed when my package comes my EFC is $7k by the way. so what do u guys recommend? emory or NYU?

Emory.

(word limit)

NYU, just because Atlanta is boring, dirty, and really hot right now.

And I just don't like Emory.

yea i would go to NYU because youre getting a TON of money and its in NYC.

25,000/year at nyu still leaves you with 20,000 a year to come up with...might as well go to emory since you won't be going to nyu as you're 14000 short. so you should hope to get a better package from emory

what do you intend to major in?

$100,000 from NYU?!?!

take it.

that's kinda what i was thinking jags. now it's kinda like which city do i wanna see... the ATL in the dirty south or cliche new york, considering i've never been to either.

i plan to major in something science, probably chemistry, with a pre-med emphasis.

Jags, aren't you forgetting the possibility of need-based aid at NYU? I think that this question is more complex than it seems at first glance.

the OP said loans are out of the question, and he most probably will get loans from nyu. Since emory has about 8 quadrillion times more money than nyu, i think he'll end up with a better package there in the long run. Also, new york isn't the place to live when you're broke.

unless he's thinking about the arts, emory is a better school with a better degree. also, atlanta isn't as crappy as everyone is making it out to be. everytime ive been there i've had a blast. also, theres much much more to see at emory than nyu. If he goes to visit nyu, the only thing he'll see are office buildings with nyu flags hanging infront of them. He's much better off visiting a real campus.

Do your homework. Decide where you really want to go. It would be nice if Emory showed their hand on finaid. Though rich, Emory does not always give the best finaid. See if you can pry loose some finaid info from Emory. Their best deals go to the tippy tippy top applicants. They use their wealth to buy respect, i.e. high median SAT's.

what do u mean by pry loose? like call the financial aid office and see if they have a tentative financial aid package set up for me?

Yes, see if you can have your papers moved to the top of the pile.

any other suggestions?
