Visit/Overnight Suggestions

Hey there.

I'm an admitted student. I've completed the crazy essays. I've survived the admissions process. I've memorized all the UChicago stats and figures. I've visited campus. I've read last year's entire Scav Hunt list. I've been jokingly dubbed a nerd. I've reread my acceptance letter a dozen times to make sure that I didn't dream up my acceptance.

Now what?

I'm planning another visit to UChicago. I visited once this summer and did the usual tour/info session/aimless wandering, but I only stayed for a couple of hours. This time, I want...more.

I'm dragging a friend (a RD applicant) along with me and we'll be able to spend the day the day there, do our overnights, and probably spend a good part of the next day there as well. I'll be on campus Feb. 11-12...any suggestions as to what I should do while there? How can I get the best feel for the school? I really don't feel like sitting through another info session. I plan on doing a class visit or two on Feb. 11 (for some reason I want to say that there are no classes on the 12...any truth to that or am I imagining things?). I plan on buying up the book store (I want one of those "And then God said..." shirts!) and checking out any buildings (can someone say GINORMOUS library?!) that will let me in. Anyone know of any events happening or other places I should stop by while I'm there?

Also...any advice for the overnight? What should I expect?

Whatever info someone could give me would be much appreciated. I love Chicago (on paper), but I want to make sure that it is exactly what I'm looking for before I commit. And I can only do that by making the most of the time I have on campus.

Thanks!

Here is a link for a list of some events that will be going on while you’re here:

[Student Events | The University of Chicago](http://event.uchicago.edu/students/)

Make sure you visit classes, talk to students and professors (don’t be shy), try to visit multiple dorms you’re interested in (even though you probably won’t be able to get into all of them), go to Bartlett/Pierce/New dining hall, go to the various coffee shops…

It’ll be cold. Be ready for that.

You won’t be able to attend classes on February 12 because classes don’t meet that day; it’s Suicide Prevention Day (“College Break Day”). The good news is that there ought to be several opportunities to see students gather at campus events. I’m sure you’ll be miserably cold, but you’ll likely still enjoy your stay. Be sure to visit a class on Thursday! I recommend a HUM course.
