Visit Review

I visited Clark on Sat. for the Presidential Scholar's Day, and just thought I'd give a small review on it. Others who visited, please give your opinions as well! :)

Glance
When I first got to Worcester, I had a horrible time finding places because of the road signs. I just had to mention that. At first look, the buildings looked well-kept and the campus had a nice feel, imo. It had recently snowed but the roads and sidewalks were completely cleared.

Classes
The professors I had for my learning modules (for scholar's day) were AMAZING. I felt completely comfortable and they were very quirky and interesting. In fact I had lunch with two English professors who were just the nicest people ever, and very down to Earth. I actually liked the professors I met there compared to the ones at my high school.

I had classes in two rooms-- one was average looking, another was just completely gorgeous, complete with chairs that could rock back. ;) On tour, I visited the building where a majority of the classes would be held (so she said) and the classes were normal sized and cozy, even if the desks were rather old.

Students
I have to mention that I really like Clark for its atmosphere. Everyone I met and talked to were just really interesting and nice. I have to mention that I come from a very diverse high school, and being Asian myself, I did notice that I didn't really see anyone of any other race other then Caucasian.

Dorms
Er. Small. Small. Cramped. I walked into one and felt a bit caustrophobic, even the hall ways were very narrow. There are suites for upperclassmen, though I didn't visit one.

Facilities
Hm. Ok I guess. I wasn't completely impressed, though I wasn't turned off either. I liked the fitness center for some reason. Large windows, comfortable though small. I can totally imagine myself in there cycling and reading.

Safety
Didn't feel unsafe at all. I went to Boston then Flushing, NY before getting home (MD) and I actually felt safer at Worcester. At least cars stopped for me. The blue lights and yellow boxes for emergency calls is a nice asset too. It might not be the best, close-knit suburb neighborhood, and not the most modern and active, but shrug.

Activity
There is a lot of stuff happening on campus. I have no clue what I'd do off campus though. While I don't feel unsafe off campus, I felt it was somewhat lacking in spiffy stuff to do. One could always go to Boston I guess.

General Consensus
I like Clark. I think I would enjoy my time there esp. the 5th year MBA program and study abroad and the students. I would go if I got the scholarship money and some more. I wouldn't go if I had to pay the $30,000/year, I honestly don't think it's worth that much.

What about you guys? :)

i really want to go to clark.

My dad went to Clark, so we went to visit it over the summer. I loved the campus, though the surrounding area was a little lacking. I didn't see any classes though, so thanks for your input!

Hey guys,

I actually am attending Clark now. I'm loving my time here. As a freshman:

I'm already in a research group (did you know, Clark was named the Hottest Research School in Newsweek?)

ALL my profs know my name & even the ones who I don't have yet!

Have a really solid group of friends (if you can go to a pre-orientation program, go!)

Joined a few great clubs (one is the alumni committee and I met soooo many trustees and alumni during the events! It's great, just knowing all these people for future contacts.)

And much more. I just really like it here, and I hope to see you guys there too. :) Let me know if you have any questions!

Just curious, what kind of aid/scholarship did you get? I realize they're probably not known as a "sport school", but any idea what their track team is like?

I was a Presidential Scholar. I believe if you look on their website, they give out scholarships based on GPA/SAT scores. My aid wasn't that great because my parents really do make too much money.

I have no clue about track, but a bunch of my friends are on cross country. They really like their teammates, and are an awesome group.

Clark looks really pretty from the pictures...but are there a lot of nice green lawns and big buildings? How is there english department (mainly creative writing) and are there any subjects that they are known for? and are the dorms coed?

There are some nice green lawns: there's the main green and then there's some really nice places behind the dorm quad. There are big buildings, and the new biology building is especially nice.

It was very pretty these past few days, with the golden leaves and green grass. It did rain a lot before though.

I am currently taking Comparative Lit. of Fairy Tales, and it's pretty fun. A small class of 16 people. I haven't taken a creative writing class yet, but am hoping to do so next semester.

Clark is mainly known for its Psychology and sciences (voted Hottest Research School), and geography. I believe.

Dorms are coed. There is one all female dorm.

:)
