Anyone else receive an email about the free visit from the 18th to the 20th?

Cal5121, you must be a candidate for a Garrett or Sherwood Scholarship, congratulations! My son was a Garrett candidate and accepted the free trip they offered, he spent an incredible weekend at Whitman, and came away very impressed with the school. There were several amazing finalists for the scholarship that year and he wasn’t chosen as a recipient, but making the trip added another $2500 per year to the healthy merit award he’d already received. That weekend enabled him to get a real flavor for life at Whitman and he liked what he saw, he’ll be graduating on May 25th.

I hope you’ll take advantage of the offer and check it out, and best of luck!

wow! sorry for the late reply, bopambo, but I haven’t received anything about the Garrett or Sherwood scholarships… was your son notified during his visit or before/after?

Hi Cal5121, sorry that I jumped to conclusions. Yes, my son had to be interviewed by the panel that picked the scholarship recipients, so all the finalists were told by their adcoms, and the admissions office made the arrangements. When you said free visit, did you mean that the school is providing transportation? Are you in a select group that they are hoping attract to attend? Are you going?

Cal5121, Sorry, I’m slow on the uptake. Now that I think about it, the “Visit Scholarship Program” you’re referring to is self explanatory. They want you to come to look over the school, so they’re offering you an expense free visit. Congratulations! I hope you have decided to spend the weekend at Whitman for an in depth introduction, it’s a great place.
