Visit to Auburn

My daughter and I will be visiting Auburn next Friday, and we wondered if anyone had any advice for us. We’ll be meeting with her admissions advisor early in the morning, touring the campus and several of the dorms throughout the afternoon, and hanging around until early evening before we head off to the airport. Any suggestions for places we should see beyond the tour–or suggestions for a good restaurant for lunch and/or dinner? Tropical Storm Ida make wreak havoc with the weather, so if it rains, is there any place we can go to see students beyond the library and student center? We just want to make sure she gets a real “feel” for the Auburn family!!

Thanks so much, in advance! :)

Where are you flying from? Need some travel advice to/from Auburn as well. We’ll be going during Mardi Gras week, but need to fly from Auburn to Saint Louis for another college visit that week, while off of school. Do not want to drive back to New Orleans and fly during Mardi Gras week. The airport is bedlam during that time.

Couple of suggestions. If any one from your daughter’s high school or church is currently attending Auburn, then she could contact them via Facebook and arrange to meet them for about 1/2 hour while on campus. My daughter & her friend did that while visiting Auburn during War Eagle Days. The one-on-one student perspective is priceless.
In addition, I would recommend meeting someone from Honors College (if she currently qualifies) or someone from the school which she plans to major.
Since Auburn is a college town, go to Toomers Corner, get some refreshing lemonade, and then walk down College Street just north of Toomers Corner. There are small places to eat which students like to frequent.
Also, what are your daughter’s interests? Arrange to meet some students who are part of organizations with similar interests. Auburn has over 300 organizations https://fp.auburn.edu/stuorgs/</a>
Also, Friday is the day before Auburn/Georgia game in Athens, Georgia. There may be some student events held in Auburn that day in preparation for the game.

We’re flying into Birmingham and visiting Bama (dare I mention that on this thread? LOL) on Thursday, then Auburn on Friday. My daughter has already been accepted to Alabama and is anxiously (wringing hands as we speak) awaiting a decision from Auburn.

MetroAtlantaDad, I appreciate the suggestions and will see if my daughter can connect with anyone from her high school who’s currently at Auburn. I’ve been through this twice before (two sons) and agree a more personal tour is the best bet for getting a real feel for the campus. The Honors College is unfortunately out for her–we’re just hoping she gets in (high GPA but low scores)–but I appreciate the suggestion. She’s planning on majoring in Elem Ed, so I think a stop at the College of Education is a must–thanks so much for reminding me. And I’m glad you mentioned Toomer’s Corner…we’ve seen lots of pictures, so it will be fun to finally see it in person–even sans the TP!

Any other suggestions, send 'em my way!

Thanks again!
