Visit to Residential College Reunion - Saw D for first time since drop off!!

YSO is the Yale Symphony Orchestra, the main undergraduate orchestra. The Halloween Concert is a long tradition, although the film part of it came along after my time.

Yes! Sorry! YSO! NHSO is so engrained in my brain. I apologize. DD was home again yesterday! Only to pick up a package that was delivered. Seeing her twice in one week was such a treat. Even though you guys are miles upon miles away, you have seen your offspring more than I’ve seen mine. Funny huh?

Although I am greatful for the numerous opportunities my DS is getting through Yale, I must admit I am jealous of those of you that have the opportunity to see your children. I will only get 19 days with him from the time he graduated HS, until two weeks after he completes his freshman year. It is not because he lives in California, but because he attended a program through Yale for most of his summer vacation and will be traveling with his acapella group for some or all of every break. You think I would be used to this, seeing he is the youngest of four, but I am not. In fact, I am feeling it even more.

Okay. I should have known that YSO was Yale Symphony Orchestra. Guess my kid getting into the other YSO threw me.

I’m sorry calimomof4. That must be really hard.

YSO and the Halloween event got some national attention today in USA Today: http://college.usatoday.com/2014/10/28/university-orchestras-strike-a-spooky-chord-with-midnight-halloween-concerts/

Is there any way to watch the YSO halloween show online? I’m wondering if they stream online

Nope, sorry. Although sometimes the films do show up, or parts of them, on youtube afterwards. There are usually DVD’s available for purchase after the event as well.

@calimomof4‌,

DD also did a summer program and met tons of friends from your state. She is still very close with them!! They were very close for the 5 or so weeks. One actually popped in on move in day which I thought was very sweet.

FYI - The mercury has dropped significantly. It was almost 70 degrees on Wednesday or Thursday. Now? 45 degrees and it’s only 5:00. I hope those from the warmer climates are prepared! It’s going to be a long & cold winter! :-q

@NewHavenCTmom‌ I think our kids are friends. Thank you for the weather update. I made sure DS had a basic winter wardrobe (I sent my DD to Chicago last fall for college, so I did have some expectations), but I was hoping it wouldn’t get cold so early. He has boots for rain, but not for snow. I was hoping we wouldn’t have to get those until winter break.

Any suggestions for winter footwear for DS?

@calimomof4‌ Yes! Small world!! I think your DS and I have met on several occasions!!!

Wow, boots for your son? God question. DD has a pair of UGG Adirondacks. I know that they also carry that same style for men as well. Men in my family have had success with Sorel, Kamick, North Face. Check out Zappos. You will find varying price ranges and styles. They offer free shipping and free 365 day returns.

You may want to do it soon! We were supposed to get snow on Saturday but it rained like mad all day! Thank God it was around 55 degrees or so. Had it been colder, we would have had quite the snowfall.

We have a Denali store on Broadway. Have him stop in and see what they carry. Tralblazers is across the street. They can even order what he needs if they don’t have his size.

I ran out last evening around 7pm & the wind was brutal. It was roughly 40 degrees but felt like 20. What’s funny is because after a long, cold winter, 40 degrees usually feels balmy around these parts! But it was not balmy last night! Timing is everything isn’t it?

Lord help my typical floridian boy endure New England weather:(

Lol. It’s gorgeous today! It’s almost 60 degrees! Our weather is so tricky. We are accustomed to it! DD visited Dartmouth this past January & said she had never been so cold in her life. It actually brought tears to her eyes. She said we don’t know cold here in NHV!! Lol

calimomof4 - look on the Eddie Bauer website. They have lots of rugged snow boots for me. The pair I have - a women’s pair - have lasted me for years and are great on ice and snow.
