visit to U of T

We just got back from a long weekend in Toronto checking out city and university. D and I loved them both. It was cold, windy and raining but still soooo impressive. What a great, student friendly city. Wonderful public transportation, great neighbohoods, friendly relaxed people. The campus is huge but it has so much personality. Beautiful buildings, old and new. Friendly people.

Great programs, great facilities, great dorms.

She is ready to sign up. Accepted to Woodsworth College. Chose it because of the all suites dorms with private bedrooms attached to common room, kitchen and bath. All brand new. Yippee!

Congrats to your D! My D3 will be at Victoria College at U of T in September. You're right in that it is a beautiful city, beautiful campus, and a great school. :)

Though I have registered to the New College from this Sptember, I will also be a "part-time" member of Victoria College since I have been accepted to the Vic One program by Victoria College, which offers first-year students an opportunity of small class (probably up to 20 studens) focusd at life sciences.

Any input you can give on applying to UT from a US high school is much appreciated. My DS is a rising senior. We visited UT last week and were very impressed. I can really see him there, he wants a big school in a big city. Any advice on applying? Advice on the residential college process?
thanks, I'm a newbie here.

My Daughter is attending U of T as a freshman this fall. Canadian Universities accept strictly on the numbers. They don't care about extra curriculars and such. Most US student go ahead and send recommendations anyway. She had 750 Math 720 Verbal and was accepted in March. She wanted her own private bedroom and kitchen facilities so she applied to and was accepted at Woodsworth. None of the colleges have enough space for all of the freshmen who want to live on campus. Those that don't get offered a spot in their college's residence are offered a spot at the Chestnut St Residence. It is a converted hotel, very nice, but a few long blocks off of campus. Most of those we have talked too recommend choosing college based on residence facility and the odds of getting a room rather than the academic aspects of the college. The college and residence application does use ECs and essays so you can use those US items here! There is a very interesting site called Ask-a-student where amusingly honest answers are given to many questions. You might like to look it over. http://www.utoronto.ca/askastudent/aska2_index2.htm
Hope this helps!
