Hi Gracie,

If you dig through some old Caltech/MIT threads, you'll see that Ben Golub and I made a pact to celebrate the differences between MIT & Caltech in our respective forums so that prospective students can find the best match without having to wade through a bunch of negativity. In the quotes you've cited in your first post, I think folks were just saying that MIT was a better match for them (no scorn involved!) - after all, this is the MIT forum. The Caltech forum has an equal number of students who say that Caltech is a better match for them. Again, I don't think there is any disrespect meant in either case - each place is just a better match for some students than for others. And both are wonderful places.

Ben Jones: I understand that there was no negativity involved in any of these posts, and am also very appreciative of all the cogent, reasoned replies I received.

I was simply curious as to what it was about Caltech or its students that seemed to discourage the students and/or their parents upon their visits relative to what they observed at MIT.

Who knows? Maybe it's something in the presentation that could potentially be corrected.
