I know Harvard gives financial help for EA not-well-off kids to Visitas. Does Harvard give aid to regular action students too?

I’m pretty sure they give out travel assistance based on income, not on whether or not you’re an EA or RD admit. :)

Thanks for telling me iluvbooks4. I received travel aid for MIT and Notre Dame (both admitted early)'s visitation program so I’m pretty sure my family’s income qualifies. I was just worried they don’t give out travel aids even if my family income qualifies because I was not admitted early. Thanks for clarifying.

Dulcinea17, I believe Harvard gives out a lot of Visitas financial aid to both EA and RD admittees. I saw all your acceptances on another thread. Congratulations! I hope you make the right choice! ;)

They actually haven’t let EA admits know yet; I’m waiting on the packet they’re sending out to the EA admits with finalized financial aid, stuff about Visitas, etc.

I believe the students receive emails about fin aid visitas. No email would indicate no aid. Call admissions today for clarification

I applied for financial aid and was accepted Regular Action. This morning the financial aid office sent me an email offering to pay for travel expenses to Visitas.

Got the email with an offer to pay for my travel expenses as well this morning!

I received an offer for Visitas financial aid too!

Same here. I was pleasantly surprised with how quick the whole process was. I requested my flights at about 7 p.m. and got approval a few hours later. All set for Visitas now. :)

Oh that’s awesome! enjoy it guys.

I doubt they’ll fly me over from here. (cheapest ticket is $1700) :O

I received an offer for financial aid this morning, but I don’t know if my parents are too happy with me flying across the atlantic in school time… they might need some persuading :P

lemming101, it’s definitely worth it to miss school! This is one in a life time! You will not be a prefrosh again. Enjoy all the recruiting from various schools while you can. I am definitely going to miss a bunch of school days for MIT’s CPW, Visitas, and possibly Stanford’s Admit Weekend (if they pay for my travel too).

@iluvbook94: How did you request your flight?

Do you guys know if we have to stay with a host of if we can stay in hotels? Does the financial aid for Visitas cover the hotel or…?

The whole point of Visitas is to get a feel for Harvard, including dorm living, so you are expected to stay with your host. Although you can opt to stay in a hotel, Vistas doesn’t cover that cost.

^See that’s what I figured but then I wondered why they had a hotel option through Egencia. I figured it could be for parents but parents aren’t covered by finaid like students are.

@WhiteDoor I got an email from the financial aid office which gave me a link to their Egencia site. Then I just searched for my flight and sent a request for approval (there’s a button somewhere during the process, can’t really remember.) Then after they approve your request you go back and complete booking.

When you are hosted by a student in a dorm or House, expect that the space will be tight. There may be a futon or sofa to sleep on, or maybe just a floor (ask if you need to bring a sleeping bag.) Students don’t necessarily have spare sheets, blankets, or pillows, so think of it as camping out.

Your hosts also are in the middle of studying for mid-terms, and having a social life, so be prepared to amuse yourself with the hoards of pre-frosh, rather than being escorted by upperclassmen. You will have a ton of fun.
