I was really interested in Whitman until I visited there at their Fall Visitor's Day last weekend and sat in on some classes. I'm sorry to say, I wasn't very impressed by the classes or the students in the classes, few of whom said anything. The teachers just lectured and seemed uninteresting and the students all appeared to be slackers (most hadn't done the reading for the classes). Whitman looked great and my parents were very impressed by what they heard, but the classes I took (Paleoanthropology, Ethics, and East Asian History to 1300) all turned me off. Did I just sit in on the wrong classes?

I also visited classes and did an overnight stay. From talking to my friend who I stayed with, I don't think there are many slackers there. People might be quiet in some classes, but he said that there was a general consensus that everyone at Whitman is there for a reason, and it would be pretty weird to slack off in a class.

Ok, thanks. I was sooo surprised because I met some really cool people there, but a few I just wondered...how'd they get into college? But I guess there are always a few like that and I just happened to meet them. Thanks!

i am a first yr student, and you def. got the wrong impression. my euro teacher gets so excited he is literally jumping on the balls of his feet when he talks about medieval letters, and my calc prof is a little too into math... slackers? no. some people procrastinate (as college students do at any college), but they will get it done. you sat in on the wrong classes. whitman is amazing!

Thank you so much! I am so relieved. I really liked Whitman, but the classes I sat in on really depressed me...I kept wondering what was going on because it seemed pretty weird...I guess I must have just picked the absolute worst classes to go to! Anyways, thanks so much for letting me know. Whitman is now once again one of my top picks :).

whats a college student at whitman's idea of fun? it sounds like a really dull place with alot of geeky, bookworm girls

I'm a geeky, bookworm girl who's visiting next week. I can't wait!

its soooo not dull here, i am a nerdy science kid true, but we have frat parties and all that if you into that sort of thing. we also have a fab. outdoor program with weekly trips going kayaking, backpacking, etc. everyday i walk past a huge outdoor rock climbing wall with poeple on it all the time, theres coffee house concerts on fridays, and speakers/ lectures on all types of subjects, haunted house for halloween, pumpkin carving, etc. plus groups of friends hang out in dorm rooms too. the library is also a happening place - open 24 hours with a reading room with a fire place (the seats next to the fire are the best for late night reading) dorks, nerds, and cool kids all come here.

greeky bookworm girls ROCK!

i forgot another adjective, ugly

if any guys attend whitman drop a line evaluating the girls

if your that much of a shallow jerk, maybe we don't want you at whitman. bookworm doesn't not imply ugly. we have plenty of gorgeous, cute, hott, and pretty girls at whitman (and guys too!). we are a good looking bunch.

ok maybenot ugly, but who wants to hang out with some girl is boring and spends half her weekend studying to get that 3 extra points on some test

maybe i should ask are there cool girls who are outgoing and fun

please dont respond lac operon, whitman people are great and so is the school! yay whitman! i get it

someone else please

I don't think any "cool girl who is outgoing and fun" would like to hang out with someone who is so narrow-minded, judgmental, shallow, and obnoxious as yourself. Unless she is out of her mind.

Have you thought about that, freeparking08?

go to CSU Chico.

freeparking, all schools will have 'ugly bookworms.' All schools will have 'cool outgoing girls'. And at Vanderbilt U., Emory U., USC, UNC, Macalester College, Bucknell U, GW U., Occidental College, Pepperdine U., and U. Wisconsin- Mad. you will undoubtedly find vain students to hang out with.

I'm more worried that your temperament will not fit in here. Your other choices are awefully conservative, which explains your phobia against intellectual females. I'm afraid you won't be very happy at an open-minded campus like Whitman, and it is probably best that you direct your attentions elsewhere.
