D2 & I will be visiting Agnes Scott next week for a first look; she's only a sophomore. When going through the process with D1, a number of the college specific CC forums were quite helpful in suggesting things to see and people to talk to while on campus. Any tips for Agnes Scott? D2 is interested in English/Creative Writing, has a 4.2+ WGPA on school's most rigorous track and tests in the 99th % (although obviously she hasn't taken the ACT or SAT "for real" yet.)

My daughter is a first year at Agnes Scott and is also an English/Creative Writing major. She loves it.

You might want to see if you daughter can sit in on a class when she visits. One thing I really like is that most all of the classes are small and the teachers know the students. Because of this, I think the students get more attention and more effort is put into helping them succeed. Even though all of the students are excellent students (it is a selective school after all) - most classes require the students to visit the writing lab often when writing their papers. This is to help the really good writers get even better. Personally, I like that.

Since it is a small school there is also a lot of opportunity to lead and join student organizations. Your daughter could even start a new club if she wanted.

They are also good about preparing the students for the world of work - my daughter just spent a day job shadowing and a few weeks ago she went to the resume workshop and lecture where they brought in three human resource representative (one from CNN) who critiqued resumes and talked to the students about applications.

The first week of orientation there were tons of activities on campus to help the new students adjust to their new home - so much so that it was a little too much. But I think it kept most from getting home-sick and it also helped them make friends.

Maybe contact admissions in advance and see if your daughter could meet some students and maybe have lunch with them - Creative Writing students might be a good idea. Not sure if they can arrange that, but they might. For as much as I thought the school would be a good fit, it has been even better. It really is a great education and ideal school, at least for my daughter.

Thanks Pearl! I don’t think she’ll sit on a class yet, as it’s her first visit just for her to a college. Glad to hear that you and your D are happy with the English & Creative Writing offerings.
