Visiting BC and Fordham over Spring Break: HELP!

My dd and i will be flying from Louisville,KY. Initially my plans are to fly to/from Newark fromTuesday (arrive noonish) departing (5 pmish) on Friday. Tho I have been to NYC a handful of times, my dd,who is a theatre maniac, has never been. SO, is it logical/prudent to catch Amtrack early Thursday,go to Boston, and catch a train back on the same day? (to maximize the tourist time available for NYC...as she just spent a week in boston 2 yrs ago.)

I'd be interested in your thoughts/ideas. thank you!

Its a little confusing. Are you considering Lincoln Center or Rose Hill?

You can reach Fordham by Newark, LaGuardia or JFK. Most use LaGuardia. The taxi ride to mid town is quick and relatively inexpensive, e.g. to Grand Central Terminal (use mid-town tunnel if you can, just tell the cab). If you are going to Rose Hill-Bronx campus, then go into Grand Central and buy a Metro North ticket on the New Haven line to Fordham Road. That stops immediately outside the gates at Fordham's Rose Hill Campus. 15 minute ride. Rose Hill is the main campus. DONT TAKE THE SUBWAY. It stops a long ways away from the campus and its an awkward walk down Fordham Road.

Lincoln Center is the Manhattan mid town campus, obviously at Lincoln Center, where the graduate school, law school and smaller undergrad campus is located. Its where the Theatre and Dance majors go to school. But also a lot of programs at Fordham are offered at both campuses. If you are going to visit this campus, then you just tell the cab to take you directly there from the airport.

I dont recommend a rental car inside New York city as its awkward and parking rates are through the roof. You don't need it.

If you are coming in by train from Boston, the train will go to Penn Station (Amtrak) which is further downtown. Hop a cab to Grand Central (its a long walk). Then proceed to Rose Hill as I stated above. If you are going to Lincoln Center, then go directly up there from Penn Station.

You can do a turn around on the train on the same day. I believe there are high speed trains to Boston and back, but those cost a lot more. If you were just in Boston two years ago and can only spend one day up there and have to return to NYC, I wonder if that is a wise expenditure of time and money. But I am not you and don't know if its worth the trip or not. It would make for a very long day. And hurried.

Fordham students are on Spring Break next week, so you won't see many people milling around.

If you are a Senior and have already applied why don't you wait until you hear back if you are accepted? Fordham has a wonderful weekend planned for all students who are accepted in mid April. Students will be there and you can meet faculty and administrators.

If you are a Junior and just checking out the campus, it doesnt hurt to do that even if not many people are around. The campus is gorgeous. And of course there is a lot to do in NYC.

thank you for your response....I am fine with getting from Manhattan to RH, I was wondering if fitting a day trip to BC was too ambitious....sounds like you concur.....I think we will take our 3 1/2 days and soak in the sites of NYC and fordham (perhaps even both campuses)...whew! this is exhausting!

That's a lot to do in one day. Amtrak will get you into Boston and then you need to go all the way out to BC which is actually in Newton. If the Amtrak stops in Back Bay you can do a switch to the Green Line and head out to BC. With Amtrac taking 4 hours and the Green Line out to BC another 45 minutes, I can't see how you can tour the campus and then make it back to NYC in the same day without being exhausted. You could take the bus and go into Framingham Mass and then cab it to BC. It would be quicker but maybe more expensive. Honestly, it would be easier and quicker to rent a car and go right to BC and then back to NYC.

I live in New York and I have done the boston trip in one day. I Took an early train up to BC did the tour and took a late afternoon train back. I also did it with Brandeis too.
